Reid should cancel the Aug recess and say no one leaves until we
have an up or down vote! Cancel your trips and campaign speeches, because we're not leaving until we have that vote!!!

This was a suggestion made on the Bernie Ward show tonight, and I LOVE IT!

1. I'll go with that, I remember going years without anything resembling
a vacation. I never made anything close to a senator's pay so I think they could handle it.

2. I made that suggestion last night or the night before too..
But I said I thought they should stay in session until the last wave of troops sent out come back from their mission...

As long as boots are on the ground in Iraq, asses need to be in the seats of Congress.

3. That way they won't have to go hear from their own constituents.
I get the feeling they'll get a bigger earful from regular people than from the likes of Harry Reid lately. He can prove me wrong, but I don't expect to be proven wrong on that.

12. They are hearing from their constituents NOW. Anyone who
has enough interest in what they are doing (or not doing) to go to their office or to a town hall meeting while they're home is already contacting them in DC!

16. ...I appreciate the sentiment, but that's just not true.
No, the only people who matter in the universe are not composed purely of activists who call their representatives in DC. Unfortunately, it's doubtful that either group will have a big enough impact. I don't fault people for trying. But, I would say it is a mistake to casually dismiss people who aren't interested in lobbying as somehow being completely irrelevant to the process.

19. I wan't dismissing anyone. All I mean is if these folks are forced
to stay in DC instead of reurning to their home for thee month of august, I don't see how it would make a difference in their constituents contacting them. EVERY constituent MATTERS! One of the main reasons I see that we don't seem to make a difference in the way these [ep[;e vote or propose laws or changes in policy is that there's not ENOUGH people involved in the process. Have you noticed how our Congress critters respond when they get a LOT of contact on a particular issue? Did you hear how many of them were talking about the thousands of phone calls and emails they received on the immigration issue? Unfortunately, it's not ME who's dismissing the people who arent interested in lobbying, it's the CONGRESS CRITTERS!

5. I AGREE!
I'd give them one week off. That's plenty.

The shit that is happening in our government, and in the world is not "business as usual", and month-long vacations are a luxury we can't afford.

I'd love for Reid to crack the whip.}(

13. A Very BIG Reason To Keep Congress In Session:
Recess Appointments...

Both Houses should stay in session non-stop until 1/20/09.

14. I was under the impression he was going to leave a skeleton crew so to speak operating
Keep the Senate functioning with at least a few Senators so Bush* could not slip in any recess appointments

17. Yes--but he needs to wait before he does. If Levin/Reed goes down,
the public will be furious and he'll have a lot more support for doing so.
