Maliki Lets Us Glimpse The Truth About Iraq
Maliki Lets Us Glimpse The Truth About Iraq

Here is an important insight into the nature of the mountain of bloody bullshit that is the Iraq war. Prime Minister Al-Maliki (and other highly placed Iraqi officials) are inviting the US to leave. They say they are ready to take over security.

You bet they are. They've been positioning themselves all along for the inevitable US pull back. Iranian backed Shia forces are indeed ready to take over security -- which means ready to hold on to their own. Ditto the Kurds. That's the real reason Iraqi factions haven't come to significant political and economic settlements. They don't want a unified and moderate Iraq and never did.

But what was interesting in this outburst is the tone. There's palpable resentment and contempt. It's the benchmarks thing. It's US officials giving them grades and then posturing in front of US citizens, threatening Iraqis with consequences as if they were a bunch of schoolchildren. From their point of view, the condescension involved in this process is enormous -- and it adds insult to injury.

Because, from their point of view, the world's great Superpower launched this invasion entirely for reasons of its own and then proceeded to neglect everything it didn't actually destroy. And then, after what has been, from their point of view, a negligible investment of time and blood, that Superpower decides it's had enough because this nonexistent nation another Western Superpower invented and called Iraq hasn't got its act together in accordance with some Green Zone mission statement.

1. maliki

take the time to look up the meaning of this name; seems to fit in with the plan to
put a man in charge who would fit our thinking.
this would be not be the first time our country helped put a person into power who would
further our cause. nor would it be the first time that one turned and bit the hand that put him there.
the first i remember was "de gaul" of france, castro and never could've made it with out us.
No matter what this administration says our main interest in the mid-east is oil.
I'm one of the 71% who think it's time to get our boys out of harms way.just think if you can get pictures of extremists with hoods organizing, recruiting or demonstrating you can sure as hell attack them.
this war is purposely being dragged out at the cost of our young. my family has one who was blown up in a humvee and will have his foot amputated, for what? we could've been out of there 3 years ago!
corruption and mis-management is the norm of the day for this administration and the world knows it!

2. Can you imagine the scorn and condescending hatred the
people of the Middle East have to feel for the American people. The same clown that destroyed their country has also destroyed ours and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

3. Actually, Maliki's completely out of touch on this issue.
He's not revealing the hidden truth. He's out of touch with the truth. Hakim, the leader of what used to be SCIRI and which runs the Badr Corps, is in touch because he has a militia and Maliki doesn't, and he wants US troops to stay.

In fact I'd best characterize this as a beautiful lie by Maliki to protect his dignity. He has the luxury of saying this because the US isn't going to leave. I'm not sure how much he himself would view it as a lie, but frankly, it doesn't matter. I get annoyed when I see writers pounce on a lie as proof of hidden truth.
