Signs Point To Rough '08 For GOP
Facts On The Ground Show Little Cause For Republican Optimism

(National Review Online) This column was written by Mona Charen.

Is the Republican Party standing on the edge of a cliff? It’s possible. Let's consider the bad news.

*************************

The article goes on to list the reasons for the GOP getting a whoopin in 2008:

1. Fundraising - 68 million vs 48 million (top 3 candidates)
2. Party Idenfication - 50% to 35%
3. Hispanic Voters
4. War

4. Will the "DEmocratic Leadership" allow the real Progressive Populist policies we have to have
to come to the fore and turn back the tide of fascism?

6. The Rethugs shoot themselves in the foot and wonder why they're bleeding.
George W. Bush has not been a plus for their cause.

Their cause -- or causes -- haven't been good for their party. And certainly not for the nation.

Their unholy alliance with the Far Right fundies has painted them as extremists.

A series of scandals has weakened their moral position, which was highly shakey to begin with.

The perception that Bush's tax cuts favored people like Dick Cheney's friends persists and carries over each time U.S. corporations gut jobs in U.S. cities.

When you insult scientists, you lose their respect, and properly so.

When you lie about weapons of mass destruction, you call down the judgment of the village upon your sorry self, and are exiled into the far provinces.

When you are perceived to have cheated in two national elections, you are justifiably distrusted.

And the Iraq War isn't exactly a smashing success.

Two thousand and eight is going to be an electoral watershed, and the blue team is the big winner.
