Hyrdrocarbon (Oil) Law: The Only Reason We're Still in Iraq?
When you look at Iraq...it's not hard to see that there is no purpose in being there anymore. Supporters of the Presidents views continue to cite chaos and bloodshed if we leave...as if that's not already happening. No matters what happens there will be disaster because we took a 3rd world country and turned it into a warzone in the middle of one of the most volatile regions in the world. Many wonder what we're still doing there? Remembering Nixon's acceptance of his failures in Vietnam and our eventual pullout. What is keeping Bush from accepting the blindingly obvious realities of Iraq? Why is he stalling? Is he just a delusional nut like many in the media are making it out to be (maybe...probably)? Or is there something else going on that is recieving very little mention? Namely...the Iraqi Hydrocarbon Law.

The Iraqi Hydrocarbon Law is essentially an Oil privitization law (cute name though). Truly, when you hear politicians talk about our "interests" in Iraq...this is essentially what it is about...the oil. It's really the only positive thing that can come out of the Iraq war for the war profiteers and some might say the reason we invaded. Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world behind Saudi Arabia, I don't think it's a coincidence that the Bush Administration chose Iraq as the launch-off point of the "global war on terror." Instead of staying in Afghanistan.

1. It's deranged. Any agreement signed now
will be as null and void next year as the American treaties Bush abrogated when he seized power.

They're scared that if they wait till Iraqis have finished killing each other, that the winner will hold a grudge and give it all to China, or India, or Russia. Just for fun. Which they will.

One more reason why this war was a stupid idea.

2. Yep.
There never was a purpose to being there. It's about oil and finding a compliant government to keep it flowing to the multinationals.

Remember that your dollar is the petrodollar, and Saddam made the error of trading in Euros. That was just too much for the administration; it was bad enough that he wouldn't stay bought, but fooling around with the thing that keeps the USD afloat was just too much.

Since Iran is insisting on opening its own oil bourse, to trade in Euros, I happen to suspect that the reason for all the war drums on Iran is due to the oil and currency too. Of course, they decided to get independent too; remember that they had democratically elected a leader who was going to nationalize the oil fields; the US overthrew him and put in the Shah.

This should prove to anyone that democracy is the least thing that the administration is preparing anywhere!
