"Everyone’s particularly worried about what happens when McCain gets back from Iraq"

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/09/washington/09prexy.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

<snip>

“Everyone’s particularly worried about what happens when McCain gets back from Iraq,” one official said, a reference to the latest trip to Baghdad by Senator John McCain, who has been a stalwart supporter of the “surge” strategy. Mr. McCain’s travels, and his political troubles in the race for the Republican nomination for president, have fueled speculation that he may declare the Iraqi government incapable of the kind of political accommodations that the crackdown on violence was supposed to permit.

1. I think it's too late for him to maverick up.
There ws a time when that strategy might have worked but it was a while ago.

2. At this point he'd actually have to begin the statement "I'm going to be a maverick now"

6. Apart from his politcs. I could never vote for him because he has the worst poliitcal instincts I
have ever seen in someone who danes to be president. He has lost his base over his posrition on Immigration and his stubborness on Iraq.

He simply in not up for the job.

5. He has always held to the view that the surge might not work
and said he does not know what will the game plan is if it doesn't

He could fo the unthinkable and say it will not work we need a new strategy. but then he has a choice to make....Start dinging the administration and the military in an attempt to salvage his bid... Or quite his run and say e is going to join the list of those who say we need a new strategy....

9. He needed a 'rev up" so he goes to Iraq
nothing is going to help him now. When he was more for America and not for the far right republicans he might have had a chance. Now he is sunk.

10. McCain's back in Baghdad? Hope he stops by Graham's rug-monger.
Lindsey scored 5 rugs for $5. That proves the surge is working.
