Ann Coulter believes that Nazism was a "civilized culture", attacks Jews
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 01:42 PM by MN Against Bush
Elizabeth Edwards confrontation with Ann Coulter got a lot of attention yesterday, but during that same interview with Chris Matthews Coulter made a very disturbing statement which got overlooked by many. If you can handle it listen about two minutes into http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x36528">this video and you will hear the following statement:

"The idea that Nazism which was tied to a civilized culture, was less of a threat than the Koran which was tied to a stone age culture I think is preposterous".

You will see the jaws of a couple audience members drop when these words come out, but perhaps unsurprisingly Chris Matthews does not seriously challenge her. This is not the first time that Ann Coulter has stood up for genocide though, here is a quote from a column she wrote last spring.

These people can't even wrap up genocide. We've been hearing about this slaughter in Darfur forever -- and they still haven't finished.

And of course no column that is complaining that genocide is not moving fast enough would be complete without an attack on the jews, because in the very same column she says this:

Moses had to grab Jews by the scruff of their necks and drag them to the desert for 40 years to get a generation capable of living in freedom -- and even then the Jews were complaining about it being too drafty ... Once free, they complained about the food ... Even in the desert, the Jews would not stop with the golden calves. God nearly let the whole lot of them perish in the desert, he was so angry about their idolatrous ways. Only when he had a new generation, born in freedom, that didn't complain about the food, did he lead them to the promised land.

This is the spokesperson for the Republican Party that is saying this. This is the person who gets booked on all the GOP talk shows and gets invited to speak at many of their major conferences, and she is a true died in the wool Nazi. Those who support Ann Coulter are Nazi sympathizers. Period. And it appears the Republican Party is filled with Nazi sympathizers.

1. I really am starting to think she is a stealth member of the Yes Men team running their longest hoax
If not then I'd love to see an MRI of her brain. My guess would large dark patches of atrophy.

--and these would be the most active lobes of her brain, not atrophied.
But you're raising a good point: she could be the first "Yes Men" project. Sometimes there seems no other way to explain her-she's like a Yes Men agent who forgot to come home.

7. Even if she is a hoax, it says a lot that so many Republicans have embraced her
I don't happen to think she is a hoax, I think she is an incredibly hateful person. But even if she were doing a Yes Men type stunt, the fact that so many have cheered for her says something very disturbing about the state of our country.

12. Very true. I think that is the point of the hoaxes the Yes Men do, to highlight the egregious belief
systems of these people, if not to save them from themselves at least to allow us to see their true natures, awakening us to the chance to save ourselves from them. The problem has been that we project our own human values on others, we never dream anybody would do what we wouldn't do.

But they do. They do start wars for personal profit. They do rape entire ecosystems for an incremental increase to their bottom line. The Yes Men say horrific things in their hoaxes and there are people in the audience nodding!

Same with Coulter. Well, if she isn't an intentional hoax she might as well be.

6. Is it just me, or does that first quote NOT say that?
Seems like she's actually saying exactly the OPPOSITE
there: "The idea that Nazism... was less of a threat...is preposterous".

Am I missing some sort of context from the video?

10. Listening again you may be right on the first quote so I edited my subject line
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 01:51 PM by MN Against Bush
Maybe I should have listened more carefully, but even so it is still just as disgusting a statement to suggest that packing people into gas chambers was in any way "civilized" while a religion that is held by a billion mostly peaceful people is "stone age".

14. I agree- the "Nazis were part of a civilized culture" BS speaks for itself.
Of course, there's some doubt as to whether a hateful
mental midget like Ann knows the difference between
"civilized" and...well, anything really.

She certainly doesn't behave as though "civilization"
has ever affected her in any positive way.

11. I found it confusing as well-no time to watch the video but
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 02:21 PM by kenny blankenship
I believe the argument she is making goes like this: the idea that Nazism was less of a threat than the Koran is preposterous (in other words they were/are both existential threats to us.) So look at the scale of our response to Nazism. It was all-out. WWII was waged as a total war for survival: nothing less than total surrender was accepted and no holds were barred. We sent our soldiers to war "for the duration". We bombed the enemies' cities day and night. We rejected their pleas for a deal. Nazism was no less of a threat than the threat we now face from Islam--after all, Nazism claimed to uphold and defend Western Civilization against "godless" Bolshevism. That was their rationale for the things that they did. Western Civilization had come to a fork in the road: it was either the harsh medicine of Nazism or obliteration under a new Dark Age of Communism. Nazism was a product of Western Civilization--"tied to it"--and so were we. We (America) had that much at least in common with the Nazi enemy. And also this: we were ready to fight to the death with the USSR after WWII to protect the traditions of private property, religion, etc. But we can have nothing in common with the "stone age" warlord-cult leaders of militant Islam. The Nazis pledged respect to and derived from the same cultural traditions as we do. Islam does not. The threat of Islam must be AT LEAST equal to the threat of Nazism, because we have that much less in common with Islam. We must therefore make the same intense and remorseless effort to defeat Islam.

That's her drift, I expect.

13. It's a garbled sentence, that's for sure. Who actually does believe that Nazism was less of a
threat than followers of the Koran? Who is she talking about? People she socializes with? Or is this an argument she has in her mind, one thought warring with another? Are these just random ramblings bubbling to the surface of a diseased brain?
A kind of neo-con Tourette's syndrome?

9. Did she go to the William F. Buckley school of elocution?
That WASPY pseudo-British drawl drives me bat-shit, and I'm English by birth.

Apart from that, she is off the charts crazy, and all those moonbats behind her agreeing with all the frothing insanities spewing from her mouth are as bad as she is.
