Poll question: Hypothetical Presidential Election II: Pro-Gun Democrat vs. Anti-Gun Republican
(Big tip of the hat to LBJDemocrat here - d)

Which candidate would you vote for, and why? Again, assume that the Republican's political stance is solidly right-wing like Giuliani and that the opposite is true of the Democratic candidate.

To clarify, the GOP platform would be anti-labor, pro-interventionist, and anti-government spending on social programs. The Democratic platform would be the opposite.

1. The President only signs laws he doesn't write them
A Republican in the Whitehouse would have us at war with Iran in no time. Write your Congressman if you don't like policy coming out of Washington.

4. But remember that the White House is the biggest "bully pulpit" of all
It still took Bill Clinton to push the ban in the 1994 SOTU, various speeches for the next seven months, and a little arm-twisting to before Congress passed the crime bill that the gun ban was part of.

2. These are just so pointless
first, it's not going to happen.

Second, the President has almost nothing to do with abortion OR gun laws.

3. I disagree on abortion
Bush has done a fine job of packing the courts with far right judges and has made excessive use of recess appointments as well

5. Bingo
South Dakota's Repukes were so emboldened that they tried to outlaw abortion completely in that state.

6. "Not going to happen?"
Many Democrats as well as media outlets were convinced that Howard Dean would clinch the 2004 nomination - but that was before the DLC hitmen sent Dean's campaign into a tailspin in Iowa and New Hampshire, opening the field up for John Kerry.

7. LOL
what did the DLC "hitmen" do to Dean?

It was a campaign. He had opponents. He ended up doing poorly in Iowa. It doesn't require a nefarious plot against him.

8. This anti-gun Democrat would stick with the Democrat.
There's way too many issues where a guy like Richardson would be dramatically better than a guy like Giuliani.

Well, by "had" I mean "drove away totally".

11. But don't you like having a 40-hour workweek as the standard?
You've got organized labor to thank for that. Left unchecked, I don't think Big Business would be that charitable.

10. Guns aren't an issue for me
I haven't made up my mind so I'll go for the Democratic candidate.

13. Party platforms are subject to revisions...
Knowing what you now know about the two major parties, who would your vote go to?
