... the most intelligent female in America...
http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/CalThomas/2007/02/01/hillary_is_no_bill

I just tracked this down online bc I read it in my local newspaper today and found it disturbing...

Cal Thomas wrote a column yesterday talking about how Hillary Clinton is not as adept at spin and whatnot as Bill Clinton was - okay, I can agree with him on that, Bill Clinton was a master.

But then in paragraph 2, I read this:

"Not so with Hillary Clinton, who thinks the Democratic Party notion of entitlement entitles her to be president. We are asked to believe that this woman is the most intelligent female in America, a person with deep convictions, unique vision and the experience to lead the nation in troubled times."

Why does she have to be the most intelligent female in America to be worthy of the presidency?

Does Thomas consider G.W. Bush the most intelligent male in America?

My suspicion is that this sentence never would have seen the light of day if the subject of his column was male, but because Clinton is a woman, she has to be the #1 woman in order to lead this country - nothing less will do.

1. Cal Thomas is not the sharpest tool in the shed

It amazes me (actually, it doesn't) that newspapers still carry his column. Hurts their credibility (assuming that they have any).

11. Oh, no argument there at all --
but this kind of thinking is not restricted to idiots like Thomas.

5. In Condi's case, it's true. She's smart, but she's not the most intelligent anything
I'd put Hillary's intellect up against anybody's on the planet.

15. What evidence do we have that Condi is smart?
She has F**ked up every post she has been given. Being a Provost at Stanford is more of a testament to political gamesmanship (and she is good at that, I will grant you). But smart? She hasn't shown herself to be any smarter that her boss.

21. Good question. Good point. That defensive whiny voice makes her sound so unsure of herself
to me. She's just a Sovietologist in way over her head, still in on-the-job training.

17. Both women are intelligent,
but certainly not "the most intelligent" in the world. What an insult. As if women are so rarely intelligent that anyone of us in public service gets the "wow she's actually smart" remark. It's akin to calling Obama "articulate."

22.  Hillary really is extremely bright. She got accepted at both Harvard and Yale, and she was voted
one of the most effective lawyers in America. Not women lawyers — laywers. She really is one sharp cookie. Hate some of her votes and the flag burning thing, but I can't think of anyone more intelligent than the Hill.

8. Maybe Thomas should ask himself
who is the most talented columnist in America and consider whether he should continue writing this garbage.

12. LMAO great response. I think I am going to...
include a line like that in my op-ed.

I've been on hiatus from writing for a long time bc I became somewhat disillusioned, so this is a nice easy step back to it...

9. I don't understand.
These guys were the ones who argued for years that it doesn't take intelligence to be the president. In fact, they often argued the opposite is true, and it's better to have some sort of moron, like GW Bush.

Not that I'm a Hillary fan-- far from it. But I would think that Hillary's intellect wouldn't even come into the equation for Cal Thomas.

10. Yeah
Kind of like the most mainstream, articulate, and clean - African American. Not like all those other, well, peeuuw, you know...

Get it now? Why does Obama have to be 'white-like' in order to be 'electable'? And why do women have to be the best in the history of humankind to be equal to the most menial man?

Subtle - but very very real.

14. I've read Cal Thomas's column from time to time. And I long ago reach the conclusion
that perhaps he doesn't believe the crap her writes, which makes him a hypocrite. Or he actually does believe the garbage he writes which makes him a total imbecile.

So which is it, Cal? Hypocrite or imbecile. Sorry, but there just ain't no third choice.

16. Because women are always held to a different standard.
We must be beautiful, thin, sexy, smart, young, and perfect, in order to qualify for things in which an ugly, stupid, puanchy, raunchy, man can have just by knowing the right people. Fact of life.

Yes Bush lost points in the interview portion, but he made up for it during the swimsuit portion of the competition.
