On Countdown. Dana Milbanks tells Keith that Paris' lawyers are going to file a writ of habeus
corpus. Milbanks than adds that the attorneys mustn't know that Bush got rid of it.

1. Habeus corpus exists for Paris Hilton.
It's only the rest of us who can't have it.

2. Surely they are not serious.
The Judge could not have been more clear about why Paris had to go back to jail.

Every teenager in America is watching to see whether Paris Hilton gets to stay home and eat pizza and drink beer with a gizmo on her leg. If she is allowed to do so, who is to take drunk driving laws seriously. The judge understands what is at stake here. What is wrong with the sheriff? Did Paris make such a pest of herself in jail that the County wanted to get rid of her? That is what I suspect.

She should serve her time. She treated the lenient sentence she originally had like a joke.

I can, however, think of an alternative: 30 days CalTrans -- i.e., picking up trash in the hot sun on the California freeways for 30 days with the other homeys. I know of a tiny little woman with five small children who was sentenced to CalTrans service for a shoplifting a few dollars worth of junk. Sorry, I have no pity for Paris. Drinking and driving is a serious offense compared to shoplifting at some discount store. And 45 days in jail is bad news, but she had a chance to virtually get off free and she wasted it.

I've seen a judge order a woman to CalTrans -- and deny the alternative of less difficult community service. Paris should take the 45 days in jail. She will get out early, but not quite yet.

3. Hate to ask but, exactly what did he cite? The judge, I mean.

The larger societal issues are easy to grasp but, I'm not sure exactly what grounds the judge is using. (Edit: On re-reading, to make this more clear, I mean the grounds for a) returning her to jail, b) wiping out the possibility of good behavior time.)

5. "30 days CalTrans -- i.e., picking up trash" That's they made Boy George do ......

and he took the punishment while being tormented
by the Paparazzi until the NYC police took pity
on him and gave him a job sweeping the jail yard.

6. While the media were outside her house, this morning, a big open bed truck pulled up.
In the bed of the truck were, space heaters, stacks of stemware, and a bunch of other party paraphernalia. One of the reporters asked the photographer standing next to him if he knew what the stuff was for, and the guy said that the paparazzi web sites were all saying that Paris was going to throw a party, tonight.

The little girl just doesn't get it, does she?
