First the republics would have investigated his every war crime and tyranny and treasonous act, impeached him with great gusto, and brought him up on all sorts of charges that would've had him behind bars well before his first term was up.

Bombing some people in some country? Giving the state more intrusive power? Lying? Aren't those required to even be considered Presidential material? There hasn't been a decade where those haven't happened(other than not having a bomb to use, but other means were acquired).
