Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 10:23 PM by BrklynLiberal
An amazing movie. Ironically I had also just seen a sociological, mythological psychological analysis of the "Star Wars" series on the History Channel.

Interesting over lap with their comparisons to Hitler, Fascism and what is going on in this country right now...

All very moving and disturbing...but gives a sense of hope for us all.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has not seen it.

1. Guy Fawkes is smiling somewhere. I was in London last year and there was an
entire building near Parliament that was covered in a giant V for Vendetta ad, it was pretty cool. I also went to the tower of London where they have an extensive section on Fawkes.

2. You know the funny part about that movie
He didn't kill any civilians. All of his attacks were at night when the buildings were empty and then there were the cops who tried to subdue him.

Funny you mentioned Star Wars becuase Revenge of the Sith also spoke alot to where our country is today.

12. Were the buildings empty?
I don't know much about the day to day operations of Parliament or the Old Bailey, and given that Parliament was an announced target, it probably was empty. The Old Bailey, though, was a surprise. It's not uncommon in many office buildings for cleaning crews to be working overnight, and I imagine there were probably some routine security guards on duty there as well.

18. Dammit now I have to watch that again.
Not that it's a bad thing. :) IIRC, the Old Bailey was announced just before the attack was made with his pre-emption of the TV signal. Enough time for workers to get out? Maybe, maybe not.

I gotta watch again to be sure.

4. It's very well made, isn't it?
Don't freak out if you feel a strong urge to start
making paper-maché masks; that's normal. It usually
passes fairly quickly.

Usually

6. "Inspiring" is certainly a good adjective for the movie.

7. I saw it, I loved it, I bought it . . .
then I saw "Children of Men" last night.

Not that it in any takes away from "V for Vendetta" (for me at least), but if you want more stuff in the same vein (though with a slightly different take), please see it!

9. Better yet, read P.D. James' book ("Children of Men") that the movie was based on --
loosely. I thought the book was much better -- saw the movie after reading the book and was actually rather disappointed. The character of Theo was totally different; the men, not the women, were infertile; and it was Julian who was pregnant. The pregnant girl in the movie wasn't in the book at all. There were a whole lot of other differences that I thought made the book a far better and more thoughtful story.

19. Even better, or at least more relevant IMO, read "Handmaid's Tale"
by http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780385490818&itm=1">Margaret Atwood. http://imdb.com/title/tt0099731/">The movie isn't bad either, though not as eerily prescient.

15. V For Vendeta is an excellent movie
I've seen it 5x....Great performances, w/a compelling & powerful story...

John Hurt's character is almost what we'd get if any of the far-righty candiates, which is practically all of them, gets elected...

20. yes, and Elrond from LOTR
V is my hero. And an expert on alliterative elocution. I love it when Natalie Portman talks Shakespeare and her punk haircut had me in a tizzy! I love this movie more every time I see it. And that "Voice of England" guy who has to be a nightmare cross between Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh is really a hoot. "England will prevail", indeed. I think we need someone like V over here across the pond to shake things up. Well, it's a pleasant fantasy anyway.

21. It's a good one!
The first time I saw it I cried during the end, it was just so moving. The second time I saw it I started crying before that and made one of my sons cry too (the combination of the story and the music just did me in). I finally bought the darned thing. I love it. I am glad you finally saw it.

22. My jaw dropped and folks clapped in the theater.
I paid to see it 3 times on the big screen just to support its early numbers. I'm surprised it got released.

23. Ok
I'll try to check it out one of these days. I'm too busy reading.

I just watched the "Star Wars" documentary of which you speak. I really liked it, though, I muted Newt Gingrich whenever he spoke. :D

25. I was also stunned to see Gingrich there spouting all that stuff. My nose had a funny sensation
whenever Newt was on the screen. He stuck out like a sore thumb among the others...particularly the likes of Dan Rather.

I think it was about $4 or so. I got Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck, though.
