Toothpaste, after the morning warning I looked at
my Crest, did not have country of origin. I looked at the tube I had just bought, no country of origin

K&R, I'm switching back to aquafresh. I value my teeth. Don't the Tuckers know how much dental care costs? Good grief.

2. it is a way to keep people down and scared
I truly don't get it, if we get poisoned nobody will pay back the bills

So there is more to this than meets the eye

4. Maybe there's going to be no future?
Who knows what to think.

The only fact is, people do things to cut down costs and maximize profits.

If there really is an ulterior motive, we're never going to know.

And if people stop buying (who cares about the impetus) they won't get any richer. Indeed, they may be poisoning themselves because of their own greed. Normally I'd say "fair enough" but we are all in this together; as Americans.

It's time to make things ourselves. We can trust ourselves, but can we trust them? What was China's actions and execution a legit apology for endangering quite a few lives?

5. There are three ways to look at this
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 05:41 PM by nadinbrzezinski
1.- Reaching fully for the tin foil... some of the folks at the top of the social scale do believe in eugenics and this is a dress rehearsal. (For the record I don't buy this too much but seen it... so will give it some distribution)

2.- Greed, in their chase for the bottom dollar they have reached the point of diminishing returns and soon you will see a back to protectionist policies as they realize that nobody is buying what they are selling. (I have actually told this to people in my industry, that in the long term they are shooting their feet off... as what we produce is a luxury item, but if people don't get paid, they cannot afford the luxury item and food goes well ahead of books)

3.- Globalization is looking at this as the end of the nation state, and your middle class is now global. If you can move, so be it, if you cannot, welcome to the new slavery. Aka the rush to the bottom

In reality we may be dealing with a combo of the three of them. For one, see comment by Barbara Bush after Katrina, for two.. and three we are living it

But I still don't get it... in the end the back lash to this will be spectacular

6. That's a Chinese website -- Colgate sold in China is made in China
Colgate toothpaste sold in the US is manufactured in the US.

There is some illegally-imported Chinese-manufactured Colgate toothpaste sold in some discount stores, but they're usually easy to spot because they have Chinese lettering on the box.

distributed in the US, with no place of manufacture, I thought I'd google around a bit.

26. My tube of Colgate says, "Made in USA." My tube of Crest says
"Dist by..."

My advice: don't assume. Either it says "Made in USA" on the box or it isn't. Otherwise, there will never be any way to tell where anything comes from.

20. Do you have a tube in a box? I have several tubes (COSTCO shopper) in boxes
The tube had nada about nation of origin, so I pulled the boxes out of the closet and too a magnifying glass to them ;)

One of the first things the GOP Congress did after bush was sworn in was to shit-can Nation of Origins label requirements on foods. I am wondering if it has been restored as I am seeing labels on produce again.

The corporations do not recognize national laws anymore, therefor, nations are just illusion. And outsourcing is not just about saving $$ on wages. Less fussy worker protections abroad and less concern about safety, contaminates, and so on. Much cheaper to do business where you can do as you damn well please and the serfs can't sue your ass.

As we lose more jobs and get hungrier here, just watch as people scream to gut any laws the corporations can convince them are the reasons they are moving jobs out. We will be begging to be poisoned here pretty soon. Racing to third world status while the freepers blindly chant We're #1!

But, I digress... Your teeth are bright and your breath minty-fresh, America. Don't bother with the fine print. It won't save us in the end ;)

21. Well, thank you for all that! And no, the box went in the trash, which
might explain why I'm not seeing the Made in US - phew!

But not so fast; just went into DH's bathroom and he bought his current tube in MX, spanish language and all. Then, I found a new tube - in the box - and it says, 'Made in MX'.

Living in TX, I can sort of understand that, and now I'm going to quit looking!

7. FDA says....
The alert says the agency found DEG in three products manufactured by Goldcredit International Trading in China. The products are Cooldent Fluoride, Cooldent Spearmint and Cooldent ICE. Analysis of the products revealed they contained between 3 percent and 4 percent DEG.

The agency also found the chemical in one product manufactured by Suzhou City Jinmao Daily Chemical Co. in China. Analysis of that product, Shir Fresh Mint Fluoride Paste, found it contained about 1 percent DEG.

41. If my Colgate was made in USA, why doesn't it -SAY- "Made in USA" ?
Tube and box both have the phrase "Dist'd By Colgate-Palmolive inc"...
but NOTHING to indicate where it was actually MANUFACTURED.
So I can only assume it wasn't manufactured here.

It's going in the garbage.

32. I'll tell you a true story about a product from China that I bought once.
I stopped at a little store on my way to work one morning several years back and bought a pair of leather palmed work gloves and noticed I'd paid about as much for those gloves as I'd always paid for American made gloves. After I got to work I was drinking a cup of coffee before work time and I noticed that these gloves were made in China. I was looking them over and I noticed the stitching looked sloppy and as I was looking them over, I felt something hard in one of the fingers of one of the gloves. I removed the staples on the tag and cuffs and I held that glove cuff down over the table. When I shook it several pea sized chunks of broken glass with very sharp edges rolled out on the table. I turned the gloves inside out the best I could and couldn't find anymore glass in them. If I had not found the glass and had stuck my fingers in that glove I probably would have gotten a day off without pay and some stitches!

I've always looked when I buy something after that day and I never buy anything from China if I can help it! I thought at that time...Man...those people in China must really hate Americans. I guess I was right after seeing what's been happening with the imported goods lately.

23. It's the glycerin stupid!
If you want to be sure that the toothpaste you use doesn't have the toxic ingredient that was substituted for glycerin, then you should purchase a toothpaste without glycerin.

While CREST is allegedly MADE in the United States, that doesn't give you any information about where the ingredients come from. And CREST contains glycerin as I have discovered today. Therefore, there is no way to be sure that they didn't buy the cheap substitute for glycerin from China or that they bought what they thought was glycerin from China but it may have been adulterated since glycerin is relatively expensive.

:distributed in North America" with nothing else. Meaning that the "toothpaste is distributed" but NOTHING about WHERE the INGREDIENTS ARE FROM...and just saying "Distributed in North America" lets them off the hook as to where it's processed and where the ingredients are from!

If you can't trust COLGATE what the hell can you trust? But, if I remember correctly "COLGATE" used to be a BRAND one could TRUST!

BRANDS FROM HELL all bought out by the Venture Capitalists and then, now, the Hedge Funds for Bush's Privatization efforts to bring in his beloved "ENTREPRENEURS" that he always mis-pronounces!

any ingredients that originate from China. I will let you know if they respond. I think we should all contact our own brand we use and see what they say and let everyone know. We were all really good with the communication on the pet food poisoning.

wrong with toothpaste now?

My great-grandmother brushed her teeth with baking soda, and she had all her teeth when she died at the age of 83.

So as long as they haven't contaminated the baking soda. . .
