Eight labs are testing fish for safety
"Our state public health laboratory Environmental & Analytical Chemistry unit has been selected as 1 of 8 chemistry laboratories across the country that will be examining commercial seafood for contaminants from the gusher in the Gulf."

There is always testing of beach waters for both personal safety and seafood safety. We get closures on clamming every year. I can't recall a closure for fishing, but there have been a couple of ship groundings that spilled fuel that could have caused closures. I just don't remember. Of course, nothing remotely like the gulf, I'm just saying it isn't like there hasn't been agencies doing all this safety testing for decades. Now there is just much more need and they're clearly moving forward on getting the job done.

1. Good..this is just what I've been
thinking about..the safety of eating that seafood in the Gulf.

Now they have much more than mercury poisoning to worry about, of course.

I read that the seafood the President was eating today would have been from an earlier harvest than what would be coming in down the road.

2. "So you're a Democrat but you don't beleive the government can do anything right?"
Can you believe I had to say that here?

3. Unfortunately, yes ...

This is one of the things that first started pissing me off in late 2008/early 2009 ... all the complaints about government intrusion, nanny state, not trusting the government to do this while *at the same time* demanding Obama just fix it.

One of the fundamental differences between Democrats and Republicans is based in this.

And at the same time we're ripping on Reagan (who frankly will never get is fair quota of being ripped on) for screwing up government so bad that people who otherwise would seek government solutions began to think of government as the problem. So you end up with people who *need* government assistance to feed themselves railing about government incompetence and intrusion and voting for the party that does little but complain about government incompetence and intrusion. *That* is the Reagan Revolution in a nutshell.
