Poll question: Do you post on internet b.s. boards with "conservatives?"
Please be so good as to follow up your answer with an explanation as to why or why not. I have certain theories at work here, and though this is certainly not scientific, it's good enough for me.

I'm not going to suggest just yet what the theory is though.

Thanks in advance.

1. I do but it's a huge disappointment
I keep expecting some intellectual coherence from rightists, and they keep living down beneath my expectations.

In fact I'm utterly amazed that they continue to be a threat to this nation.

2. Yes and have for years.
In fact one of those wingers told me about DU, I'd never heard of it before. They kept telling me I got my talking points from DU so I found it and did a little reading and joined!! I haven't been a prolific poster, but have learned much and enjoyed the ride.

It's a racing forum (I know liberals aren't supposed to like racing, but I do...it's exciting and about as much fun as politics!), which is why I went there to start with and evolved into a general discussion area that quickly became political. There were a few liberals there then, and lots of wingers....now less liberals but I stay on as a thorn in their sides to bring their far-fetched bullshit down to earth. The longer I am there, the bull has went berserk since the Obama election. They hate him and they hate us.

Now, I don't take kindly to people smearing President Obama and it gets a little testy at times, but I am not backing off those nuts and letting them by with the lies. You can call it therapy....I call it beating them up with their own words. ;-)

4. Sure it is.
They thrive on the 'sound bite' mentality given to them by the likes of Beck and the other wingnuts on Clusterfox.

8. As I suspected, most of you will not engage the stupid. . .
No one is telling me why they will not engage the stupid. I'm sure I know the answer to that one too, but if no one tells me then I am only guessing.

9. Oh hell no
Conservatives have serious issues and tend to think every last negative 'ism' should be a way of life. An intellectual conservative will either sound more Libertarian, or say something like "I'm a fiscal conservative and a social liberal" Always some caveat.

Straight hard core conservatives are often very angry people,(and just as often, have an angry God) who never seem to know what a world community is really about. Or care to. Conservatives are the masters at creating the 'other' and have a very difficult time accepting human beings as human beings, seemingly wanting to create some sort of sub-class for those they don't approve of. A people of very limited scope of vision, and have a great fear of any change.

I can't talk to people like that, although if it's a straight factual information exchange I could deal.

10. Thanks.
I agree with everything you're saying ismnotwasm and appreciate the insight. You raise a couple of excellent points that I have not considered.

So you're saying you don't like hanging out with them because you find them to be angry? Maybe you can give me a few more specifics?

12. Anger based may be a better term
Liberals get angry of course, but there are specific targets (generally) War, insane corporate profits, social injustice, lack of health care etc, Labor practices etc. When we argue among ourselves, it tends to be more about method and approach rather than content.

Conservatives are angry in a a far more generalized, wildly destructive way, ie. 'Big' government, Taxes, Gays destroying family values,(?) Mexicans etc. For example, I have a friend at work who despises illegal immigration, brings up 'my tax dollars' on the topic frequently yet knows absolutely nothing about the history of either Mexico or immigration itself. What I do with her--since I like her-- is side step the topic a bit and bring in a new dimension. Instead of 'blaming' Mexicans, I ask that she takes a look at both the historical and current US and Mexican government policies prior to angrily blaming a entire race of people.

(It might be worth mentioning that we're both nurses)

While a case could be made (and boy has it) that many progressives argue angrily about the topic of immigration, I find it far easier to find a respect for the sense of how history affects current affairs, and far less outright of the-- not only not acknowledged-- but completely unrecognized racism that comes from entitlement.

13. I think it's hatred.
I have summed up the "conservative" position (and I have put conservative in quotes because I regard them as radicals, and in this regard they can't be real conservatives) as a hatred of what they call "Liberal."

As Goebels said "We decide who is Jewish," they say "We decide who is 'Liberal.'"

They all seem to be pretty much on the same page with it too. Remember the image they had of the elephant humping the donkey? That's how they envision themselves.

11. Yeah, my favorite internet forum has conservatives posting
It even has a special section for political discussions.

I don't mind, and I get along with them on the other bits of the forum.
