3. Well I'm sorry about Gore. I know you guys really had your hopes up.
Biden won't let you down, though. I've never been as confident of a candidate before in my life. If he were to become President, I would feel secure.

He also is committed to the environment and he's the kind of person who wouldn't hesitate to ask for Gore's help.

I'm glad you're here!

5. However, I thought this was an EXCELLENT video + EXCELLENT Joe Biden ---
We make presumptions about Tuesday . . . and it seems to be the wrong idea.

Also -- he's for TOTALLY publicly funded electiosn --- YEAH!!!

And, paper ballots ---

we need guaranteed counting of those ballots ---

6. Yeah - whenever an issue came up I used to hold my breath to see how
Biden would respond, but I've never been disappointed and have agreed with him on almost everything. Now I just assume I'll be in agreement with him.

I watched another candidate speak to the Why Tuesday guy, and although I agreed with what he said as far as it went, he obviously hadn't given as much thought to it as Biden had.

My knee-jerk response to moving voting to Saturday or making it a holiday would be "brilliant!" but Joe has LEARNED differently.

And he would do "whatever it takes" to get more people show up to vote.

I really really like this guy.

7. IMHO
I watched all the other candidate responses to this as well, and I wasn't impressed with any others.

Take a look and compare

10. Interesting and very positive
Except that he is part of the large number of public officials who don't deem to realize how bad exactly the electronic options are right now. Also, the federal mandate for safe machines would seem to be including the DRE's- still- with the paper trail. As those who warned about this band-aid approach earlier it has created this pitfall of tolerance for DRE's. The States might sue constitutionally over the Fed imposition on grounds of its effect on state procedures, with our SCOTUS being on the phone immediately to Bush or Uncle Dick to see how they should swing.

His statement about Tuesday is equally smart in that this is no quick and total answer to turnout. The example of Puerto Rico and why it works so well there should be examined. Making something customary and not prey to other habits of the rest of the US is something that has to be examined before merely setting up a quick legislative solution.

So we see here, wisdom, commitment, legislative smarts and yet the falling short over the presently critical reforms that frustrates all of us.

One thing indisputable, as unlikely as it is to happen in Congress today. Campaign finance reform IS the easy great leap forward in all reform. When thinking of issues, when the overriding issue causes all the problems to become nagging sub issues, the prime focus, if possible, should be at the top. Biden has the order right. On immigration, the issues of licenses and a swath of state laws is nothing compared to dealing with the top relationship of Mexico to the US being ruled by narrow business interests and damaging anti-worker policies. It takes time but would be grimly awesome to make the dominoes fall from the top. Immediate concerns plague us because the top domino is Bushco.

12. The solution is poison
because it uses one questionable machine- because it is expensive- as mere pressure to get the states to give up their hodge podge of dangerous machines. If the machine itself is a fraud the feds can ban them, but not facing up to that leaves us with merely possible bags of tricks, strategically dominated by the GOP which is how things like this will just keep happening. The good and clever legislation is very smart and very much in limbo meanwhile. We have been through this sideral smartness with Feingold/McCain and Holt on HAVA and I'd lke to see that massive campaign finance reform get through uncompromised and enforced, but it won't until there is "pressure" from the people.

13. My belief in Biden is such that I feel he would acquaint himself more thoroughly
with the issue and call in people who have a better understanding in order to help him choose the best direction.

Compared with the other candidates, Biden has given more thought and consideration to this issue, but I have no doubt he realizes there's more to be considered before implementing a mandate.

On a personal note, thanks for your explanation. To those of us who aren't as informed as you the distinctions are fuzzy - I thought there was one grand solution to the problem. I should have known better! :hi:

14. Thanks but I am very limited
compared to the regulars in the Election reform forums. I meant overall to compliment Biden because as president he would have the power to really advance that most crucial legislation and then down the line
as necessary- although I think he should not wait for the finance reform to change the mess of fraud we have in place now.

Edwards was one who came out directly in favor of paper and against the machines. DK too I expect. I now wonder what Hillary would do about finance reform or Obama and if they generally fall behind even what Biden is proposing. It was a most important issue many years ago and the people were on board with the news media cynically trying to lessen that impact. The Feingold/McCain bill got adapted to by big money or ignored with small results and no impact on fraud whatsoever. Donors have even survived public donor listings without much impact.

16. You may be 'very limited' in your estimation but you made me aware there's
more to be learned, - so my gratitude stands!

I didn't take it as a criticism of Biden at all - please don't feel you came across that way. It's my hope that all the candidates become as aware of the options available as Edwards seems to be. :toast:

15. focus
I believe Biden's central focus here is not on the machines but on the ownership of the voting machines. Indicating perhaps that past abuse stemmed from that point--I'm thinking Nebraska, ahum.

-I'm quite happy to see that the point on public funding of elections, that's progress!

later days! Mitt
