Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 10:56 PM by EVDebs
"Bush fulfills H.L. Mencken's prophecy

On July 26, 1920, the acerbic and cranky scribe wrote in The Baltimore Sun:

"On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

27. Who said that Fascism would arrive in the US
wrapped in the American flag??? I can't remember and it's bugging me.

btw, k and r.

When George says this country is finished, it's finished. Maybe all the Lefties could move to a state and then secede....Vermont? I'd prefer N. California!

3. Unless the Democrats wake the f***** up, this Country is f*****.
And you can quote me. How bad does it have to get before democrats start speaking out. Rep Stark did and the rest of the democrats made him apologize. Damn Pelosi, damn the weak-kneed, spineless rich Democrats that don't want to upset the ruling corporations. Bravo to those few Democrats that are striking out.

7. It is depressing.

So few people know Olbermann is on the air.

If NBC had any brainpower at all, they would have him on the nightly news, and relegate their pretty people that cover dog treats and cute children over to cable.

If it weren't for DU, Amy Goodman and Keith, nobody would have a decent source of information.

And I *LOVE* the fact that Carlin said that the first 35 minutes were the only useful part of the show. They need to send the comedy routine to somebody else's show, and let Keith do 60 minutes of the hard stuff.

21. Michael Musto
and those other "comedic" bores whose names escape me. WTF?

Why does KO tolerate them? Is he required to? Or does he think maybe they make him look smarter and wittier? Because they do. But they send me - and probably a fair number of other viewers - straight to the remote.

Carlin didn't trash the last 25 minutes per se, but he certainly got his point across and for that I am grateful.

39. Over the past months, Comcast in my area -- Union County NJ --
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 01:50 PM by defendandprotect
has continued limiting programming -- and has been delivering very intermittent services --
both cable and TV . . . "signals out" messages a lot on TV. Quite often picture fades to very poor reception.

On internet -- constant interruptions of signal --
currently we've been having hourly disruptions of signals --
5 minutes on -- 5 minutes off

They say a "big node" ??? went down --
and completely off line -- though I occasionally still do have signals.

Supposedly, over months this may have been cause of problems in area --
which they were ignoring?

In other words, capitalism is also about not providing services in order to create profits!!!!

Comcast sucks!!!

Oh -- and got that info finally after holding on the phone for 20+ minutes!!!

43. woohoo! good for them indeed!
I want to tell my friends to cancel there's and get a dish now, maybe they'll do it. It's cheaper I think anyhow w/more programming. Only downside is w/the storms in FL they probably will lose their reception during every storm for a few minutes or more. But, small price to pay to not have to watch the liars on Fox Noise, seriously, he's always telling me what they said, and I'm like - I wish you had msnbc, and they won't watch clips on youtube unless I pick the best and send them. ha... (they're former republicans that have voted Dem the past 2 election cycles - one of them told the GOP fund raiser caller to not spend $50 million on B*sh's reelection party and they wouldn't need to ask her for money and hung up!)

That before a satirist can see the world "cock-eyed," you have to be able to see it straight.

Behind every satirist is a social critic, someone who sees the absurdity and injustice of the world and holds the world up to mockery and derision.

Love the Carlin. It's people like him who give me hope for this country. Intelligence and compassion will win out - we just need to be a little more forceful with our compassion! As George said, use a hammer. We're too nicey-nice (I give you Pete Stark's apology), and we can't afford to be that way when facing the moronic lunatics in charge.

The ability to buy "cell phones that make pancakes" is disappearing for a lot of people as our jobs and the floor beneath our economy is being eroded --

What is a recession or a depression until you've lost your job?

Until your town has been washed away in a flood and you don't get home again?

Until your town is on fire?

44. The extremist right
They have taken a number of put-together right-wing rants,
and falsely attributed them to George Carlin ("George Carlin,
bad American," etc. etc.). Why they picked George Carlin, I have
no clue, but they did.

I sent this to a number of them who still believe there really is
a right-wing George Carlin out there instead of the real thing.
So far, I have not have ONE reaction. It obviously came as quite
a surprise to some of them who agreed with "Carlin's" right wing
prose without ever checking who George Carlin was. Logical enough:
if they bought WMD, compassionate conservatism, rule of law, and
Republican balanced budgets, then they'll probably think that this
interview was with some imposter claiming to be George Carlin.

51. "This country is finished": words of bitter wisdom
And how.

But let us look to a phoenix rebirth. Ditch the present moribund Dem leadership. Indeed, ditch the two party system--the double dose of mediocrity and mendacity we call "democracy." Pull down the money power. Drive our elites to common decency or guillotines: their choice.

Clear out the corrupt old deadwood and we might just see an American renaissance. Don't scoff: history is ironic and full of surprises, and it looks favorably, sometimes, on upstarts.

But every fool knows the following -- everyone that is but useless party aparatchiks who think replacing a Bush with a Hillary is medicine. Throw more time down the sinkhole of same-old, same-old, and we won't get anywhere. If that is the best the Dems can do -- run Hillary, this sad tool of wealth and war -- then Carlin will be proved right.

55. The American Experiment
This is a new nation relatively speaking and in spite of the rabid pro "free market-anti American Government" propaganda, may in fact eat its self alive. The idea that an unbridled profit motive is the wholesome backbone of a free society is as grounded in rationality as the virgin birth and Bigfoot.
