These are words of some serious wisdom coming from Richard Dreyfuss.

He discusses why teaching civics to our children is the only way we'll ever save this idea of "America".

This was on the Bill Maher show.

1. I think this deserves five votes.
Sometimes you need to be reminded of the bleedin' obvious.

4. He blew me away on that show...
It more than made up for some pretty crappy movies. I did not know this guy was that bright.
FWIW I agree completely about the study of civics.

If there's to be a government by the people, we'd damn well better know something about it.

5. Excellent clip
This isnt the first time I've seen Richard Dreyfuss speaking on democracy.

About a year ago (?) I saw him debating Grover Norquist at, I believe, Oxford University in an open forum kind of setting, and I was blown away by his eloquence.

I was always a fan of his, but had no idea he was as well versed in civics as he is, and have had the greatest respect for him ever since.

He is one American citizen that 'gets it', and in the process of proving that, also proved Grover Norquist to be the lying weenie he is.

It was on CSpan and was well worth watching or looking for in their archives.
