President Obama just presented his jobs plan - a $447 billion plan - to put millions of American back to work - and he dared the Republicans to oppose it. The President's speech couldn't come any sooner - because a year of spending cuts brought to us by the Republican Party - in many cases through hostage scenarios - are killing our economy. And now is the time to ditch austerity - and go after ACTUAL job creation - and to fight for it. President Obama gets it - and so does the United Nations. This week - the UN issued a new report pleading with Europe, Japan and the United States to ditch the austerity agendas - warning that continuing down the road of spending CUTS will push the global economy to the brink of disaster. Instead - the United Nations urged governments to adopt policies that increase workers wages - as in - put more money in the pockets of people who will spend it and get the economy working again. As the report read, “Given the lack of growth in employment and wages in Europe, Japan and the United States, their policies should aim at continued stimulation of their economies instead of trying to regain the confidence of the financial markets’ by prematurely cutting government spending.” In other words - stop trying to please the banksters -and start trying to help workers.

2. I normally like and agree with what Thom has to say but....
President Obama always gives good speeches. But he usually does what the RepubliCONS want despite the speeches he gives. Time and time again, I've seen people cheer Obama after a speech only to get RepubliCON "free" market legislation passed.

Yes, yet again, Obama sounded a little like a liberal. But what has he really proposed that is any different from the worshipers of "free" market magical-hand and Ayn Rand Serial Killer lovers?

Tax breaks for corporations, infrastructure building (that have no buy America attachments) cuts in Medicare and Medicaid, cuts in spending, Social Security still on the chopping block, reduce regulations, and not a word about stopping the numerous wars this country started.

Obama is proposing NOTHING NEW. He's just like Herbert Hoover. Ever read any of Hoover's speeches? They all sounded really good (except for a few typical RepubliCON memes), just like Obama's. But what did Hoover do? He did NOTHING.

FDR tried new ideas. Yes, the ideas were already out there and a few states had similar proposals but they were considered radical ideas, liberal and socialist ideas. FDR went out on a limb when he tried them at the federal level. I think Obama with his little baby-steps will get exactly what Herbert Hoover got with his inaction - NOTHING.
