50 years ago today, the Soviet Union gave birth to the space race with the surprise launch of "Sputnik", the first man-made object ever launched into space.

Fears of "Soviet superiority" swept the nation. Within 12 years, we had put a man on the moon.

2. I wish we put more money into our space programs collectively
As a planet. We should be focusing on learning more about our universe than destroying our planet here on Earth with endless wars and pollution.

We lack leaders with vision especially in the US now.
