2. We see what's important to the media
and it isn't affairs of state.

If reporters want to continue the tabloid questioning then they should be totally ignored and eventually fired for not producing anything of substance!

Work for TMZ if that's all you're interested in!

109. Media's job now is to get ratings! It's not to report the news or the facts.
Their job is to get people to tune into their 24-hour networks to get the low down on stuff that is not important, juicy stuff that smears someone..........dirty laundry and bubble-headed bleach-bondes.

What is Weiner working on at the moment that prompted this attack in the first place?

Or is it just a random smear campaign because he happens to be outspoken more than most?

82. Don't Think That Clarence Thomas an Wife Don't Have Very Powerful Friends to Pay for a Hoax. . .
I mean, with Clarence Thomas, we are not talking integrity here. Otherwise his wife would not be paid huge sums of money from the right wing for influence and favors--dollars that stay in the family, you'll note. If not for influence peddling, Mrs. Thomas probably be working at an Ihop somewhere sweating over a grill.

Weiner is the ONE rep. hat is more than willing to speak up about the atrocity which is Ryancare as evidenced by the this video:

He is relentless and the GOP knows he will expose them. Coincidentally this smear started under 48hrs after this video.

Yes. A high profile rep working against the tide sent out pics of his cock in underwear to a teenager.... like ya do...

Why on Earth would anyone begin to believe this?

"Are you afraid of the answer" the "reporter" said as he answered is own question. Hey... he wasn't afraid to send his underwear over the public airwaves, but now he' afraid to answer questions?

What IS this? A play by Ionesco?

He's not playing the game. That just pisses the GOPress off.

8. Good for Weiner. We get this kind of media because it's cheap and easy, compared
to real reporting

If the media showed, by real investigation, that Weiner was actually stupid enough to send that idiotic tweet, I'd say more power to them. But I really don't think they can succeed at that, mostly because Weiner just doesn't seem that stupid, and also because the media has become too fuggin lazy to do much more than ask moronic questions like "Why do you think you were hacked?"

If reporters won't investigate this story carefully because they're just too lazy, they certainly won't investigate serial liar Breitbart, who encourages their laziness by handing them glitter-covered-bullshizz "stories" like this that they can noisily promote day after day

13. Hence the rise of alternate media
like bloggers, web-based magazines & news sites, Youtube & Wikileaks. (& to a degree, organizations like Greenpeace & dare I say it..Anonymous) even Jon Stewart is a better interviewer than most of the 'real' reporters I see!

With so much of the media consolidated in just a few companies & their reporters afraid to to do any real investigating, the general public knows they're full of shit & looking for other sources.

Edited on Wed Jun-01-11 02:12 AM by ProfessionalLeftist
Why? Tabloid trash sells baybay! They're profit-driven entities and they want the PROFITS. They aren't interested in providing public service ie: news on important issues like the debt ceiling. Sarah Palin and Weiner's weiner gets more website hits, sells more rags and get more viewers than news about the debt ceiling. That means advertisers. And that means MONEY for the medialoids.

They won't get off it. They have their marching orders...

26. Their hostility toward Weiner
is blatant and an indication of who's paying them. They implied that if Weiner didn't go along with their line of questioning that assumed Weiner was responsible for the incident, he somehow was covering up a crime. There's a reason CNN's ratings are in the crapper. Being Fox lite doesn't attract the Pox audience. It alienates normal people.

48. No, quite frankly, it's in your head
There is all sorts of analysis that shows that the supposed photo came from a camera that Rep. Wiener does not own.

You are not a mind-reader. Your belief that you can read "body language" to determine truth is laughable. I would say more, but it is impossible to do so without violating the posting policies of the D.U., and while those policies are routinely violated against me, I don't return the favor.

He said no way is that his package, he should know. They used to hang together at the Jersey Shore.
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-may-31-2011/distinguished-member-of-congress?xrs=share_copy

kinda strange why some would think that this was true. It is out of character for him, nothing in his past points to this type of behavior. We would have known if there were cause fox and friends would have dug it up by now.
Since you seem to know a lot about body language try looking into patterns of human behavior. There is nothing in his past to suggest previous behavior along these lines and there usually is. Smells like Briebert and friends, now they have a past regarding this type of behavior.

69. The other side is that Weiner's account was hacked.
That is quite possible.

There could be three explanations for Weiner's failure to deny this more strongly.

1) He may have referred this to a lawyer. If he says too much, he could hurt either a damages lawsuit based on these events or a defense should he be accused of something. (Can't imagine what at this point.)

2) If Weiner did not do what he is rumored to have done, is accused of doing, then what can he say? I have been accused of things I did not do. It is very hard to deny these things sometimes because you don't even know enough facts to think of alternative explanations to the blame placed on you.

3) If Weiner did not do it, he may just think that since someone else created so much press interest in him, he should take advantage of the opportunity this mess presents to get some good points of view out there on issues on which he is working.

Weiner is in an uncomfortable position. Fingers have been pointed at Breitbart, but Weiner is probably having the situation investigated especially with regard to the hacking charge. As the reporters pointed out, that could be a serious matter. Weiner would not want to accuse any specific person of that act until he has some proof.

But still, I would like to see Weiner explain more to the press. I'm sure he will.

119. Actually, one of the signs of a liar is when they look directly in your eyes and tell you what they
want you to hear.
Every teenager learns that little trick when they're trying to play Mom against Dad and vice versa to get money, or go out, or whatever. "I did my homework and I'm going to get an "A" this semester, "My friends and I would never go out to hang out at the 7-11 and bum smokes like the other kids, we go to the park to play Frisbee-golf!"

The questions are a mis-direction. If he says anything, or nothing, it doesn't matter to them, those "journalists" are just a pack of barking dogs, a pack following the scent of a quick easy story with high ratings.
He's not a hypocritical holier than thou family values pusher, and he doesn't get all over other people for percieved sins that aren't against the law and don't involve potential ethics or national security violations, so why would it be an issue if he got his freak on or not?

It's all a game, a distraction - to focus the media on a congressman's personal life instead of on a real story, like budget games and the debt ceiling, or real ethics violations.
And if "he looked them in the eye and told them the truth", there would be paid "body language experts" who will claim he's lying and guilty - probably the same ones who are claiming he's guilty now.

Haele

Him or not, still a hoax.

and plays 25th degree inter-dimensional chess, and wants you to think that he wants to appear that he wants the attention, because thats just what they would want him to do?

And maybe its just too easy to criticize someone for their public response to an experience that NONE of us are ever likely to have to endure? We don't know how we would respond, because we aren't Congressional Representatives involved in a scandal, fake or otherwise.

Still, that doesn't stop the quarterbacking and critiquing...especially from new members that seemed to have popped up on DU JUST to climb on Anthony's Weiner issue ;)

Edited on Wed Jun-01-11 09:14 PM by defendandprotect
especially on the pic -

this isn't only about Weiner any more than the attempt to impeach Clinton

for his scandal was solely about him -- it's about the nation.

If we want right wing SWIFTBOATING'S to be stopped, we need better responses

than this!!

I agree -- many politicians have made clear that it is too easy to demonize them -

not that I was a fan of Daschle, but occasionally he tried. Guy made clear how

thoroughly they were working to turn him into Satan and he'd had enough of it.

But, then again, it's not like we can protect them, either! They have to fight back.

And, though Don Siegelmann has been fighting back like hell for more than 3 years

now -- look how insanely that's going!!

Any Democrat should rise up on these Swiftboating's -- and make sure that Siegelmann

gets help -- and ACORN doesn't happen again -- and that those doing these filthy

things are held responsible!

Ugh -- rant -- blast!!

Weiner is a fighter -- think maybe he was trying to rise above it? ?????

:( and :)

Wouldn't it be nice if reporters had been this persistent with George Bush and the GOP?
Would we be where we are today?
We can see wht is important to them -- not the government, not the petty politics of the Republicans, not the holding of the nation hostage to GOP demands, not the economy, not anything of importance, but this stupid Breitbart stunt that has been proven to be a fake.

102. I Support Weiner. . .
. . . and I understand if he doesn't want to dignify the questions by directly answering them. And I agree that his refusal to answer is not evidence of anythying. BUT ... it does seem strange he hasn't called for a full investigation if, as he says, it was a case of his account being hacked. I mean, if he did do it, or if he intended it for his wife or whatever, he should own up to it; as disgusting as it is for people to try to smear him, it's not as if what he did was illegal, nor should it in any wise be a career ender. If he didn't do it, he should be eager for an investigation to find out who hacked his account. If he's protecting someone, then he needs to rethink his protective instincts. But from a purely PR perspective, the way he is handling it so far, he's blowing it.
