I can't help but feel quite a lot of anger at people who endlessly tout "American exceptionalism" and insist that the US never apologize for anything and that anyone who does apologize for the atrocities we've committed automatically hates America.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we'll simply say that they suffer from blindness; they aren't willing/able to see what has been occurring. On the other hand, if they are cognizant of our government's abhorrent behavior across the globe, and they still support it, they are purely morally bankrupt, and, perhaps, fascists, if not crypto-fascists.
