4. Another view
I hate this to be my first post (long time reader) but here goes anyway. What Bill says is true in part but a lot is left out for humors sake. Masterbating at home rather than cruizing bars saves money and lowers the risk of DUI's and STD's. Is it not better than cheating with strangers and bringing disease home to one you love? It is certainly better than men forcing themselves on an unwilling female.

Everyone masturbates!!! My dog masturbates. My wife and I watch porn together and have fantastic sex, but if I am tired or not in the mood, she masturbates next to me before we sleep. .

There are a lot of pluses to spending a little time with yourself. The clip from Bill is way too Puritanical...maybe he is thinking of switching parties.

6. what party is he in?
I think he was saying a lot of men seem more interested in masturbation than they do actual sex. How does any of that lead you to conclude he's going to switch parties?

8. Duh
Anyone that thinks men would rather whack it than have real sex is a moron...he is a comedian trying to be funny about porn.

The Right is known for it's views on sex, at least what they say when the cameras are on. If you want to pretend you don't understand that...you have given yourself away. Say Hi to the Koch Brothers for me when you pick up your check.

14. ok, you're a goofball
You must have missed the story last week that suggested men prefer masturbation to real sex. Maher is not a Democrat or Republican.

16. More DUH
If you read it in the media, it must be true, right?

"Before the 2004 U.S. presidential election, Maher became candid in his stated opposition to the re-election of George W. Bush and in his support for John Kerry.

Known for protesting against the demonization of the word "liberal", during the campaign Maher criticized Kerry for being ashamed of the word. He was originally against the Iraq War, and has summarized his opinion by saying that the United States and the world have had to pay too high a price for the war. He is skeptical of Iraq surviving without civil war.<38>

In the 2008 U.S. presidential election, Maher announced his support for Barack Obama."

"On August 24, 2009, Maher was a guest on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and on the topic of getting universal health care legislation passed, Maher stated that Obama should forget about trying to get 60 votes for it, "he only needs 51." "Forget getting the sixty votes or sixty percent — sixty percent of people don't believe in evolution in this country — he just needs to drag them to it, like I said, they're stupid; get health care done, with or without them."

Sounds like a liberal to me Reggie.

23. "liberal" is a party now?
He supported Democrats because the right-wing was becoming far too crazy. Doesn't make him a Democrat. I'm sorry, were you trying to say earlier that he was NOT what you're claiming he is now?

9. The issue is people are becoming emotional and literal hermits
Pornography is a tremendous part of that, particularly for men.

13. and the women
What does that say about them? I mean the ones that just want the security. Most men ARE lazy about sex and pleasing a woman, but it takes two. Any woman has a choice about her mates sex life. She can make it or break it, they can be lazy as well, though that has never been a problem for me. Porn, no porn..next it will be the sexy gals that are the problem....sheesh,

18. Far as it Goes
Trading the real offer of sex for porn, I'm getting old, but I'd never do that. Now trying to cajole, beg, borrow, steal, go out and spend a ton of money, forget about it. Too much trouble, it is. I decided that a long, long time ago. I've about decided when you get to that point in a relationship where no one ever wants it, it's pretty much done. Then again, my motto is I'd never respect a woman who'd have me, and I wouldn't inflict myself on anyone. So there is that.

Maybe it's good for keeping the population down.

I do think Maher is reaching for material, it just wasn't that funny. I think porn is just an easier choice for many, and usually an option for those who feel they aren't likely to get "lucky" anyway. I'm OK with that. Gave up on the game long, long, Loooonnnngggg ago.

17. across the board
It's the same for sports, travel, music etc. We are watchers more than doers because we can be in the age of media. It's not just sex.

Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 09:40 AM by Lorien
rather than just getting off while watching others do it online it is "puritanical." He's saying that Americans are lazy; and they are.

3. After all the fearmongering the Repubicans;
Have gone through since 2000, it's a wonder most people leave their houses much less get together to screw.

Feels like the Reagan years all over again; screw your neighbor but don't kiss him/her.

Seems to me, he's reaching for material here, and scraping the bottom of the barrel.

So what, big deal. I still like the guy. :)

11. Do men really waste that much time on porn?
It seems so silly to me...looking at pictures and masturbating. There are so many more fun things to do. Even watching an old movie sounds way more fun than that. But I am female. I just don't get the attraction/obsession with porn. :eyes:

(Now, jelly beans and those little candy orange pumpkins that come out at Halloween...I totally get that!)

12. I have to guess it's an "individual thing"....
Probably some, yes. Probably others, no. I remember being involved with a Christian "mens' group" that focused on getting away from porn and masturbation. That was strange. Seems most, if not all men, have a problem with it. But as for personal.....periods in my life needed more, other times needed less, and yet other times were totally not interested in porn.

But I do agree with his "lazy" comment. We ARE a nation of lazy fools. Maybe not even just us...maybe the whole internet world. Good sex has no competition with porn sites. Shitty sex is a tough choice. Why Bill chose this subject is beyond me. Poor taste on his part. Aren't there more important things to make fun of in this world? Maybe it's just me?

19. Dialog
the national dialog on masturbating vs actual sex needs to begin now!

Is the real reason the government invented the internet to turn us into a bunch of lazy masturbating zombies?

I want to talk to the evil genius that hatched this one. Maybe that means I have to watch Glen Beck this week or something?

21. Beck
Is a good example of why it's sometimes better to rub one out than plant a seed.

(Love the Zappa quote)

22. DO NOT PROCREATE
Far better to rub one out. The next child you create could be the next Adolph Hitler or Saddam Hussein. Or, perish the thought, the next generations Glen Beck!

Nazi-esque but helpful propaganda for our time. I'm sure our liberal media is going to pick this up and run with it!

Frank was/is my hero for the last 40 years. Becoming a Zappa fan was a big part of my route to becoming a CRITICAL THINKER. Or at least I hope I've OUTGROWN THE ORDINARY.

20. The disease of 'word breaking'
"The forsaking of all others is a keeping of faith, not just with the chosen one, but with the ones forsaken. The marriage vow unites not just a woman and a man with each other; it unites each of them with the community in a vow of sexual responsibility toward all others. The whole community is married, realizes its essential unity, in each of its marriages...

Marital fidelity, that is, involves the public or institutional as well as the private aspect of marriage. One is married to marriage as well as to one's spouse. But one is married also to something vital of one's own that does not exist before the marriage: one's given word. It now seems to me that the modern misunderstanding of marriage involves a gross misunderstanding and underestimation of the seriousness of giving one's word, and of the dangers of breaking it once it is given. Adultery and divorce now must be looked upon as instances of that disease of word-breaking, which our age justifies as "realistic" or "practical" or "necessary," but which is tattering the invariably single fabric of speech and trust.

(pg.117, "The Body and the Earth")"
