"The Story of Bottled Water"

The Story of Bottled Water employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the story of manufacturing demand -- how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. The film explores the bottled water industry's attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to 'take back the tap,' not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all.

1. I do not drink water from the tap for very simple reasons:
1) agricultural runoff;
2) the horrid smell and taste often present (especially in summer) due to #1;
3) the policies and practices of some water systems are questionable.

So I drink water that has been filtered (whether by a filter in my fridge or filtered water purchased at the store or otherwise filtered). I carry my drinking water with me and try to avoid public water fountains -- except those few that feature their own filtering.

2. water from the tap is heavily treated
and that treatment process is heavily regulated with regular checks along the way to ensure public safety. Unless you are drinking water from a well there is very little risk of runoff contamination.

in most cases there is virtually no difference in safety between tap and bottle.

3. Looks like this woman eats a lot of take-out
Judging by the spare tire she carries.
