4. One thing I noticed was he had dark hair
and although I didn't see his face, I'm pretty sure he looked kinda, sorta, maybe Middle Eastern.

This is an outrage and a recipe for disaster. How long will it take before the people demand strip searches on children should be in a separate room, and how long after that will it take before pedophiles infiltrate the TSA to get their sick kicks?

When will the American people wake up and realize that, little by little, they're chipping away at our rights as citizens of this Democratic Republic, and making us not only like it, too, but pay for it via our tax dollars?? When will we say ENOUGH!

I am so angry about this video, I can spit.

Perfect for them. Almost as good as the school playground.

I can't see this crap lasting much longer but, then again this country is so screwed up that I have to remember anything is possible.

3. Havn't been to the airport to see if that stuff is happening.
But saw that they were doing pat downs on both cable and local tv.

Then again, the ending of 12 monkeys clearly shows going to the airport is not the best coarse of action.

6. This shows how STUPID these rules are
This boy, went through the metal detector without a problem. He was pulled out for a pat down at random. He was shy and wouldn't let the guy do the entire pat down, so he pulled away. The father tried to hold the kids arms out so the guy could continue, but it made matters worse, and so the father just pulled off his son's shirt and threw it at the guy. That is about where the video started.

When in the hell are they going to get trained observers in there that can see who is nervous and should be pulled in for a pat down? This random crap is stupid and a big waste of time.

12. Every decent human being is incensed over this, left, right
independents and libertarians. But they will try to divide people, try to make it a left/right issue if we let them. Already the big guns from this administration have come out in defense of these abuses, Napolitano, and shamefully, Obama, the father of two girls who I am sure, he would never subject to this.

And it was Napolitano I just found out from another OP here, who provided the money from the stimulus package to purchase these machines. Who is she beholden to? Chertoff? I know she will profit greatly for her 'work' after she leaves office.

We are screwed, we were deceived. I am ready to give up on all of it and leave this country. If Democrats would do this, who can we turn to, to defend our rights now?

27. I believe Obama when he says that his advisors told him this was the best way
currently possible. I read into it that he didn't like it (because he told them to find a better way) but he said his priority is to protect the people.

(I think it's too paranoid but I'm not the POTUS and don't feel the responsibility he does, so )

These people can always present compelling arguments. I once likened it to debate class, you can make either side of an issue seem plausible, and a DUer said it was like a law class s/he took, learning how to defend and make the facts sound supportive of the defendant regardless of how abysmal they truly were.

So I'm guessing both Obama and Napolitano believed these "experts". I honestly don't think either one of them is beholden to anybody, but I don't question that may be the case with one or more of the anti-terrorism committee.

I really do trust Obama AND Napolitano and although I, like so many, am WTF? about many of Obama's moves which appear to benefit big business, I don't think he's in anybody's pocket -- just WRONG at times.

And of course, only my non-expert, non-insider opinion arrived at from sitting on my sofa watching the real world go by. :7 :hi:

34. He relies too much on a small group of people such as the Goldman
Sachs alumni on the economy, people who have a stake in getting things done their way, while most other experts throughout the country, see things very differently and apparently more correctly.

If he is relying only on these people with whom he has surrounded himself, most of them failures, like Geithner at what they have done in their careers, especially as far as the American people are concerned, then he clearly needs new advisers.

He is a smart man. Nearly every other expert on security in this country has stated that these scanners will NOT stop a terrorist nor will the obscene pat-downs.

Not to mention the fact that this terror 'threat' poses the least amount of danger to Americans than so many other threats they face every day. This was Bush's fear-mongering tactic. I didn't expect to see it not only continued but enhanced by a Democratic president.

If I am to fall for this, then I must reverse my opinion of Bush and assume that he too was not just deliberately trying to scare the American people so that his war and terror-profiteering friends could profit, he was doing what his advisers had told him was in the best interests of the country. Are you ready then to give Bush the same respect, that we were all wrong about him after all?

40. I agree - I think he needs to surround himself with more varied voices.
ALTHOUGH, how do I know he doesn't? I do know he put his Afghanistan 'surge' decision on hold at Biden's urging to solicit other opinions than the Generals'. So maybe he does that in all instances and just makes (in my mind, anyway) some wrong choices. Maybe he doesn't - who knows?

I remember when Biden was running for President, Bill Maher spoke with all the candidates and asked Biden to put in order of importance the threats to us as Americans. There were four choices, economy (I think), high fructose corn syrup, something else, and a terrorist attack. Biden chose the economy, high fructose corn syrup, whatever the other one was, and a terrorist attack was at the bottom of the list. I almost wish he wasn't VP so we could hear his take on many of these issues without having to agree with the company line.

No. I do not give Bush any respect. The interests of the country weren't a priority with him (proven by the fact that he had designs on Iraq even before he took office). Plus, he didn't CARE. I think Obama cares and wants to do what's right. They're not even members of the same species as far as I'm concerned.

44. Good to know that Biden put threats in perspective back then.
As far as Bush, the problem with supporting these intrusions and trampling of our rights by Democrats is the fact that we screamed so loudly when it was Bush. It really isn't possible for us to discern who cares and who doesn't, Obama eg, voted for the FISA bill, AFTER having opposed it. Knowing how opposed the people were to letting law-breakers off the hook.

We can only judge by their actions, they all, including Bush, claim they care. And if it was wrong when he did it, assuming that Obama has different motives for continuing Bush's policies, doesn't change the fact that they are still wrong. And if we change OUR minds depending on who is in power, we will most definitely lose all of our rights and for the worst of reason, partisanship.

The focus needs to be on the issue, not on the politicians. We are the ones who will have to live with the results of excusing wrong policies because we are willing to give a pass to those we like. People have to be consistent, even when politicians are not. It is still a democracy and it really is up to us in the end.

14. Sick.
So... somehow... it's become okay in America for the state to condition 6-year-old children to being strip-searched by men in uniform in public? Before they hit puberty, American children are supposed to be turned into sheep who have no fourth Amendment rights? There was a name for a life like this, back when there was still a Big Bad Soviet Union. We called it a POLICE STATE.

Enough already, goddammit.

Even in the coldest times of the Cold war, under the rule of Josef Stalins USSR, it was not that bad, even tho, the airline industry in USSR was in it infancy before the mid 1960s, it still was a airline industry, by the state even under Stalin... And after that, under the more colletive rule, of a few ones, it was not that bad for everyone who had to use aircraft to fly to City's in the USSR.. Not even in the eastern block, where many country's took their border security really seriosy, it was not that bad, like a child been streap seartchest to se if he/she had a bomb on the body...Even the rather paranoid KGB, who in some times had a rather paranoid understanding of most things, was not treating everyone with the same comptent for dignety.. And KGB could be rather ruteless when treating "enemies" of the State.. In US everyone who dear fly is an enemy, and should be treated as sutch... Even the old Stasi, who was the most effective security apparatorus, inside the iron curtin (even KGB was in envy over the powers the STASI had) was not that...

Yes, US is more and more like a Police State.. And it have been like this since 2001, when the attac happend... Nugde by nugde, the police state have become the norm, and the land of the free, the land of the brave are no more. It is just a country where you wil be treated as a mere criminal, if you dear to use airliners... And just wait, i wil bet that this is not even the end of everything.. Soon, trains, busses and everyone other forms of long distanse trafic wil go true the same things... And why, becouse they can, and becose most americans have signed off their freedoms and liberties after Jr got into office in 2000... Collectively US had killed off their own liberty and freedom, becouse as many studies showed, allmoust 50 percent of all americans accepted some limitations when it came to liberty and freedom, for some protections against terror.. And after this often draconic, police state metodes, no terrorist have managed to blow up an aircraft.. Therefore it must work dosen't it?.. US woted out her freedom allready in 2000, and wil posible wote out your collective freedom in 2012, or 2016.. US allerady have woted their freedom away with the tea-baggers who now have the controll of the House, next is the Senate... And then the neo-conservatives, who I for many years now, have liked to the nazist of the 1930s, wil take round two, to kill of your once prosperity, and your freedom once and for all, and put a regular police state over your head... Then you might understand what freedom and liberty really is about. As the world outside US have understood it many times over before....

Just wait, I know my history, and it is not pretty when a police state is in full bloom... And US is on the tractory to be a police State in a few years..

17. This is only a reflection of the madness that gripes the entire world.
The situation is pure madness. The terrorists are determined to harm us and we are forced to respond with increasingly invasive procedures. If you believe these measures are draconian then you have never went through Israeli security.

I certainly understand peoples' concerns especially when children are subjected to body searches. However, I wonder what would be the reaction if someone sacrificed their own child and was successful in bringing down a plane. I don't believe that this is a stretch when you consider just how fanatical some people can be.

20. No need to risk strapping explosives to a child to get past security
After all, a terrorist can just shove the explosives up his butt as it has been acknowledged that the Chertoff machines and current grope searches will not detect an explosive hidden in that location. Since that is the case, anyone who sincerely believes these new and "improved" searches are necessary for security purposes should be loudly and vociferously insisting that all searches include body cavity searches as well. You do want to be safe don't you? A chain is only as strong as the weakest link, so in effect as long as they ignore the issue of the terrorist with a bomb in his ass, they are leaving a gaping hole (pun intended) in their procedures.

25. You've raised some important issues, Johny. Re: "weakest link"..
Yes, there are more weak links than anyone imagines. I've discussed this with friends, but hesitated to post anything here. Don't want to give anyone ideas (all of which have been thought of, I'm sure), but I'm sick of this nonsense.

How often, on a commercial flight, is there a body in the cargo hold? You know, Uncle Harry dies in FL where he retired, but his family and burial plot are in Kentucky. So, off he goes. What if they X-ray the casket and there's something odd there. Do they stand Uncle Harry in the corner while they search? Nah!

Furthermore, what about all the maintenance and cleaning people who can crawl all over those planes at will? Weakest links, indeed!

Cavity searches would be logistically impossible, I would think. But, not to worry! A cavity bomber would put TSA in an untenable position, i.e., if a shoe bomber requires that passengers remove their shoes, and an underwear bomber requires that they have their underwear searched, then a body cavity bomber requires.... Otherwise they'd have to admit that it's all just theater.

IMO, the underwear event stinks of CIA OP. Why would they roll out a cavity bomber and risk blowback?

18. Unfortunately.................
I can't agree with those postings that suggest that children or those with medical conditions should be exempt from pat downs.

But before anyone jumps on me for that let me explain what I mean.

The bad guys are very clever. They will look for any exceptions to our security procedures. They would not think twice about putting explosives in the underwear of a 4 year old if they knew he/she would not be subject to the same screening. Then someone traveling with him/her will go to the lou in the airplane with him/her, take off the undies and voila. Or they will find someone with a medical condition to conceal explosives in their medical equipment.

The problem here is that we are looking for explosives rather than the people carrying or transporting them. If we shut down the method of carrying explosives onboard in checked luggage, screen all checked baggage and cargo, the terrorists will turn to other means.

For years drug smugglers have experimented with swallowing condoms filled with drugs or inserting a drug-filled suppository up the rectum. The challenge there is if it breaks the person dies of an overdose as the body absorbs the drugs. The bad guys could easily fashion a tube filled with explosives and have it inserted into the lower colon by a sympathetic physician. They leave a little string on it so the bad guy can retrieve it in flight in the lou and voila.

Trust me that will be next and how are we going to detect those? Are you going to do a full through body scan of every passenger or do a cavity check; vagina and rectum for women, rectum for men? That will go over well.

You can't rely on searching for the instruments of destruction. You have to rely on capturing the people. You have to rely on good intelligence and human observation. Someone that is about to do something like attempt an attack on an aircraft is going to exhibit signs of stress. First of all even if they believe they are going to have scores of virgins waiting for them in heaven, they realize they are about to take their own lives. That has to put stress on them. Further they know if they are caught they won't get the virgins but rather could be a virgin in the U.S. prison system.

We have to change our strategy from being so focused on the 'stuff' and focus on the 'who'. The Israelis focus on the "who" and their behavior.

Even before 9/11 when I was in Western Europe about to board a flight to the U.S. I was questioned by security (separate from baggage security). They asked about where I had been, why I had been traveling, who I had spent time with, where my bags had been packed and where they had been since then. They even questioned me about my company laptop including if it had been in for any repairs recently, etc. The security staff watched you up close and personal for about 3-4 minutes of questioning.

Why aren't we focusing on these kinds of measures instead?

29. Not a strip search
It's outrageous all the same, but let's be precise in our hostility: this kid still had his pants on. It looks like he had no shirt under his hoodie, but subjecting a child to this is crazy. I wonder what his dad (assuming that was him in frame) said to him afterward?

If I was 4-5 year old, and little shy, I doubt that anything my dad could posible tell me, to try to comfort me, after this would mean anything.... I really doubt it.. And I do not know what I should tell my child (if I had one) to comfort the child after been treated by TSA like this.... I think the rest of the travel had been in silence, in deep despair for both of us.. For the child, for been treated with an indignety like this.. Me for not been able to protect my child against this..

I do not know what he said, or to who he said it too.. But if I had been in the spot I would be so furrious at this, at the best had been to not say a word.. If I did, I would have exploded, and tearing the whole place to small pieces, and I mean REALLY small Pieces.. If you ever have seen on cop shows, who the police have to jump many on a person to subdue the fellow. This would be just the beginning... I am not a big man, but I can tear a mans head from the body if I get angry enough.. I have exploded twice in my life, and it is just plain luck I have not killed anyone when I exploded.. And if ANYONE tutch my child or a child I have custody of, in any way not right, I would do anything to protect the children from this.. State sanctioned or not I would tear the place down.... This is so wrong in so many levels that I can't even start to say what it is...

This is just one of the reasons I drive when I have to travel somewhere.. Either drive myself, or going by train, not by air, even tho I absolutely love to fly, and have allways enyoyed travel to distant places by air.. It is just not worth it anymore, to go true all this nonsenses, who are not doing anything to protect anyone. If you want to PROTECT against terror, you need to use common sence, and to use metodes far mote advanced, than to streep search a 5 year old child.. It takes some more time to drive, but it is worth it, I can take the time I need, and with all the new gagdes I can be as content as a little child in the vom.. I can put on a CD or the Ipod, and to sound the music as load as I can.. And then, the travel goes as best as it can. In a comfortable setting by road... I do not care if it takes me a couple of hour extra, I like to drive;) And Norway are not that big anyway...

But maybe the dad was a far better man than I am, and managed to not strangle the TSA agent and even give his son some word to comfort him, maybe he promised him, that this would not happend again, or maybe he was given some other words of comfort, i do not know... Maybe he even passed word with the TSA agent, to point out the indignety the child was under, maybe something like this "is this your protecting are given us, to dress down a 5 year old child??"

Maybe this was his first time the child was traveling in an aircraft. But it would surly be a trip he would never forget.... I still rembember my first ravel, to Bulgaria in 1986, on a TU158b2. A really interesting experience I would say, traveling to a country on the other side of the iron curtin, going true the border and so one. But even then, it was not THAT bad as shown in this clip... I never experienced a pat down like that on the other side of the iron curtin.. Even tho I experienced a custom lady who was REALLY into a closer inpections on my, when I arrived in Norway from a trip abroad once.. I allmoust got the whole 9 yard inspections, she belived me to be a drug currier I guess.. it was in my youth... Oh wel, I managed that too.. And I even got on the train on time so I got home;)

31. Even My Catholic Priest
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 11:41 AM by JJW
Even My Catholic Priest isn't take friendly and intimate.

Hillary Clinton, called these gropes an intimate pat-down.

Sorry, there isn't anything intimate about the assault of innocent citizens.

38. And that's okay with you? To have strangers mauling your children
and undressing them after you trained them never to allow anyone to touch them?

Do you have children? Would this president allow this happen to his daughters? Or any of the other so-called 'leaders' in this country, like Napolitano, who are lying to us about how every single American citizen is a suspected, no they are being treated like a convicted felon?

I hope the outrage is so enormous and it seems to be and growing, that they never again attempt to do something like this. If it is not, these grotesque practices will be at every mall and our children will be in more danger than from any terrorist.

39. First of all there wasn't any "mauling"..
Yes I do have children and I would not have a problem with him or her being searched. If I did have a problem I wouldn't consent to it. We should be real careful saying a kid was "stripped searched" when that wasn't the case at all.

41. A child going through that machine is being strip-searched and
exposed to dangerous, cancer causing rays. A child being 'searched' by a stranger, having their clothes removed, IS being mauled and abused. Your standards are yours, I am a teacher and if I were to do that to any of my students, I would be arrested and probably sued also as well as my school.

I would not allow anyone to touch a child in my care, no matter what excuse they have. To sell away our rights out of unreasonable fear, fear induced by propaganda, is truly a sad thing to have watched for the past ten years, the willingness of people to allow themselves to succumb to this irrational fear that they would give OTHER PEOPLE'S rights, because you may not have a problem with strangers groping and stripping your children, but please when defend these abuses make it clear that you do not speak for the vast majority of American parents, grandparents, teachers and others who are responsible for the safety and well-being of children.

42. It's as simple as saying no and walking away. Problem solved.

43. Apparently it is not. When one man attempted to do that, to
not fly rather than subject himself to these abuses, he was not allowed to leave the airport and was threatened with being arrested AND fined thousands of dollars. Fortunately he video taped all of it so there is no doubt that just walking away is not an option.

The only way is to boycott the airlines.. If money talks, then lets see how they do without it.
