2. She has no clue why the audience
burst out laughing, does she? :banghead: She thinks they're reacting to her brilliant debate skills.

6. She, classicly, tried to tie up time with blabber to kill the debate
as I pointed out she doesn't understand (I think that was honest) that "creationism" and "intelligent design" are the same thing-she doesn't even understand 2 steps back on her talking points.

She also tries to DAMN Coons for politicking in churches "as you do on Sunday mornings"

THEN.... in front of law students... she drops the dumbbomb

4. That's pathetically hilarious, or hilariously pathetic.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 06:25 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
When she says the concept of separation of church and state isn't in the Constitution, the audience bursts out laughing. You just shouldn't say stuff like that when your audience is a bunch of law students. And then when Coons quotes the First Amendment verbatim, she says, "That's in the First Amendment?" And they laugh again.

:eyes:

How pathetic is it that someone that ignorant of the basic principles of government can get a major party's nomination to run for the U.S. Senate?

9. The problem is
that she is one of a large minority who don't want those to be the basic principles of government any more.

10. What's worse
is how the RW lunatic fringe-owned M$M try to soften their reporting of teh stupid that ushered from her mouth. Why they just won't stick a fork in her and her twin - Caribou Barbie, and declare them done, is beyond me, other than the fact that it is probably due to the tabloid-infused buffoonery that they embrace in their supposed "news reporting".

I can't help but think this whole election is total bullshit for her. She's the darling, the pretty girl getting attention, and has the potential to make some pretty good bucks to boot. This election is just her path to glory and screw the country.

15. A Fos News show?
talk radio?

I have said it before Palin is talk radio in much better packaging. The camera loves Sarah and she loves the camera....but the camera comes with a microphone attached at that is where the trouble starts. O'Donnell is from the Palin template.

Aside from the screech, do you notice how Palin always sounds like she's on the verge of laughing or something? Like this is just, gosh, so FUN bein' up there on the big screen and all!!!

I hope (and assume) there is a big pile of steaming crap sitting in the Dems' pantry for her next goddess forbid run for office, just ready to turn loose. I can't wait to watch the hot air go out of that big balloon of stink.

Her repeating it over and over again...she's dumb but she ain't stooopid.

What kills me is these folks think that evolution - science - is a matter of opinion! Ergo, local school districts may teach whatever they want. These people have made scientific fact malleable. Where will this all end?

20. The National Center for Science Education..
..strives to fight for good public education by legally battling to keep evolution in schools and creationism/ID out.

10 relevant cases summarized:
http://ncse.com/taking-action/ten-major-court-cases-evolution-creationism

The Kitzmiller vs Dover case is recent (2005), and somewhat entertaining. The judge's conclusion:
(from here http://ncse.com/webfm_send/73 )
Conclusion
The proper application of both the endorsement and Lemon tests to the facts of this case makes it abundantly clear that the Board’s ID Policy violates the Establishment Clause. In making this determination, we have addressed the seminal question of whether ID is science. We have concluded that it is not, and moreover that ID cannot uncouple itself from its creationist, and thus religious, antecedents.

Both Defendants and many of the leading proponents of ID make a bedrock assumption which is utterly false. Their presupposition is that evolutionary theory is antithetical to a belief in the existence of a supreme being and to religion in general. Repeatedly in this trial, Plaintiffs’ scientific experts testified that the theory of evolution represents good science, is overwhelmingly accepted by the scientific community, and that it in no way conflicts with, nor does it deny, the
existence of a divine creator. To be sure, Darwin’s theory of evolution is imperfect. However, the fact that a scientific theory cannot yet render an explanation on every point should not be used as a pretext to thrust an untestable alternative hypothesis grounded in religion into the science classroom or to misrepresent well-established scientific
propositions.

The citizens of the Dover area were poorly served by the members of the Board who voted for the ID Policy. It is ironic that several of these individuals, who so staunchly and proudly touted their religious convictions in public, would time and again lie to cover their tracks and disguise the real purpose behind the ID Policy.

With that said, we do not question that many of the leading advocates of ID have bona fide and deeply held beliefs which drive their scholarly endeavors. Nor do we controvert that ID should continue to be studied, debated, and discussed. As stated, our conclusion today is that it is unconstitutional to teach ID as an alternative to evolution in a public school science classroom.
Those who disagree with our holding will likely mark it as the product of an activist judge. If so, they will have erred as this is manifestly not an activist Court.

Rather, this case came to us as the result of the activism of an ill-informed faction on a school board, aided by a national public interest law firm eager to find a constitutional test case on ID, who in combination drove the Board to adopt an imprudent and ultimately unconstitutional policy. The breathtaking inanity of the Board’s decision is evident when considered against the factual backdrop which has now been fully revealed through this trial. The students, parents, and teachers
of the Dover Area School District deserved better than to be dragged into this legal maelstrom, with its resulting utter waste of monetary and personal resources.

To preserve the separation of church and state mandated by the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, and Art. I, § 3 of the Pennsylvania Constitution, we will enter an order permanently enjoining Defendants from maintaining the ID Policy in any school within the Dover Area School District, from requiring teachers to denigrate or
disparage the scientific theory of evolution, and from requiring teachers to refer to a religious, alternative theory known as ID. We will also issue a declaratory judgment that Plaintiffs’ rights under the Constitutions of the United States and the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been violated by Defendants’ actions. Defendants’ actions in violation of Plaintiffs’ civil rights as guaranteed to them by the Constitution of the United States and 42 U.S.C. § 1983 subject Defendants to liability with respect to injunctive and declaratory relief, but also for nominal damages and the reasonable value of Plaintiffs’ attorneys’ services and costs incurred in vindicating Plaintiffs’ constitutional rights.

Ms O'Donnell is not saying anything new. The creationists have been spewing identical nonsense for years. What IS new and frightening is that someone so willfully ignorant of the law imagines that she is competent enough to become a Senator, and has gotten as far as becoming a major party candidate in a general election.

27. Christine O'Donnell is an embarrassment to the United States.
Good heavens! Not only is she wrong and ignorant, but she firmly believes that she is right. I thought maybe the tapes that Maher showed were just kind of outliers, but this is horrendous. You would think that before appearing in a debate at a law school, a person would kind of read the Constitution and Google a few points that would be likely to arise during the debate. But Christine O'Donnell?? Apparently not.

This is absolutely unbelievable.

The audience was laughing at her. At first there were coughs, but at the end people were just laughing out loud. And she did not seem to really understand that they were laughing much less why. Oh. What were Republicans thinking when they voted for her?
