1. If a person is Christian.
Edited on Sat Oct-16-10 10:59 AM by RandomThoughts
You have to realize that Christian doctrine says pay your taxes, and there is an odd verse, and I think a mistake of Paul's by choice of action, where it even says that giving half what you got and hording the rest, is bad.

You have to face the facts that Christianity is a religion of the group, almost everything about it is about the group. Empathy is about the group, as is sharing.

So either a person should stop saying they are a Christian, or share what they have with those in need.

It is pretty clear, although the methods to best do that are often discussed, governance, NGO, charity, private sector, public sector. The fact is Christianity is way closer to sharing what a person has then capitalism.

Although individualism is also important, as spoken of with concepts of grace, and also the concept that anything is possible with God, and such things that make a person happy as an individual, also, if a person choose to, the way a person chooses to be an individual can also be used to share love and kindness.

Whatever gives you joy, any profession or action, if you want to share happiness and love for people, there will be help to allow a person to do that.

It is not that complicated. Although it can be hard for people to think of themselves as part of a bigger part.

But guess what, that is what you do when you are part of the machine of some economic system also. People work as parts of a bigger item, it is that way in every system. Even in the worldly military, people are part of a bigger things.

Think of it as each person as a neuron in a brain, because it ends up that way, either by intervention, or the simple act of neural networks. And the ideologies and motives of the group they join in with, is how they contribute, since that system will try and conform them to the system standards. So find a system that is part of what kind of person you want to be. Or move between systems with different thoughts on different topics. You can go to profit first work, make money, but when asked to hurt someone, then shift to love and kindness group, and argue against some bad things. Be able to bridge between the areas that make up life, and don't just become something by a group you join is how I think on it. If you enjoy the challenge of making money, but also want to be nice, both those opportunities can occur without a conflict. That is why base lines, and rules are needed, so people can enjoy making money without destroying the environment and hurting people.

When you join a firm, it tries to teach you profit first, and conform you to that system. When you want to share kindness and love, you get help to be able to do that with power also, and learning of what love and living is.

But you do get to choose, even as you are a part of a bigger system.

2. I am so sick of the socialism vs capitalism argument.
Why can't we just ask what policies and programs work best for the greatest number of people? History has clearly demonstrated that a state controlled economy cannot respond quickly enough to the variable demands of the people. History has also demonstrated time after time that laissez-faire capitalism is far too unstable to maintain a sound economy and benefits a privileged few over the majority. The fact is the countries least affected by the current economic crisis had a good synthesis of a market driven economy with stabilizing regulations and social programs.

For those who think that capital is supreme there is one glaring fact. Someone must put in the work, the labor, to convert raw materials into consumable goods. Capital without labor is useless, but the truth is that a group of people can get together and work without capital and still create goods and services. If the dollar was worthless tomorrow this is exactly what we would do.

4. Well said!
A balanced blend of the market forces and stabilizing regulations with social programs, what is so hard to understand about that?

3. I'd like to see her actually explain "free market principles"
I'm sure she has no clue of what that is.

5. I'm sure you are right.
Her only interest is in putting down Obama. She doesn't have to really know what she's talking about.

6. Only real intention . . . .
Sarah Palin has only one purpose ~ propagate hate and fear and make money doing it. Unfortunately because we have so many radial thinkers and also desperate people grasping for anything to improve thier current status she gets an "A". Republicans use her with no real intention of considering her for any REAL Party position and she's too dense to realize it. She absolutely sickens me:puke:

7. Coming from the former Governor of one of the if not the most SOCIALISTIC states in the union.
Every man woman and child in Alaska receives socialistic payments from a socialistic fund established from oil profits. Apparently the state of Alaska believes *GASP* the profits from natural resources in part belong to its citizens. These payments were something see sought to increase while she was governor.

Not to mention the state of Alaska would curl up and die if it ever went off the federal government dole.

Not to mention Bristol Palin listed on her child custody documents her child's health care is provided by one of the federally supported tribal plans.

8. that echo noise isn't the room, it's her hollow head reverberating

SHE is John McCain's REAL legacy - he was the one who created the biggest joke on the hard-working people of America, and his two SOLE legacies will be 1.) he failed miserably at running for President - twice, and 2.) he failed the historically respected, intelligent political system by nominating an idiot as his single, 'best choice' for Vice President - sending the collective IQ of the Republican Party down 90% from it's historically low post-Bush bottom.

Nice way to throw away years any potential legacy you might leave to the world, you self-serving flip-flopping brain-lapsing GOP old-as-f*ck idiot. If you were feeling the male-life-crisis need to have your long-abandoned groin stimulated, couldn't you just have had an affair, and not put that hollow-brained idiot on your bus to have something 'inspirational' to look at for your late-night fantasies when Lieberman or Lindsey weren't around to give a hand?

He may as well have picked a smooth stone from a river to run as his VP - at least you could use it to open a window for some fresh air. Plus its IQ would have been higher.
