The devastating floods in Pakistan have damaged 8,000 schools across the country, according to United Nations estimates.

About 5,000 other schools have become shelters for the displaced.

This means that children who were not affected by the floods will not be able to continue their education, at least for the time being.

The UN says it plans to meet schooling needs by setting up temporary learning spaces in camps, while the government of Sindh province announced plans to enroll students in cities unaffected by flood.

Al Jazeera English's Zeina Khodr reports from Hyderabad, the second largest city in Sindh province.

1. I guess nobody cares about what's happening to the kids in Pakistan.

54 views in 1 1/2 hours? I'm sorry, but I finally feel like I have to express my disappointment and despair at the apparent lack of concern for fellow human beings in their time of need that I've been witnessing.

2. K&R, but you are absolutely correct...
The MSM prefers to look back at and re-analyze Hurricane Katrina and the war in Iraq... :(

6. Last weekend I saw someone whom I hadn't seen for decades
Turns out that she now works for the Red Cross. She knew about the dire situation in Pakistan, but I'm sure that very few others did. The MSM just isn't covering it, while they sent their top reporters to cover the aftermath of the tsunami (Diane Sawyer, Dan Rather, Anderson Cooper, Soledad O'Brien) even though there was absolutely nothing left there... :pals:
