9. Ok, sorry I framed it in that sarcastic way.

I was just frustrated with what I saw to be repeated baseless attacks (as opposed to legitimate, well thought out criticism which I appreciate) and I was pointing out a recent instance where Cenk praised Obama.

Unfortunately the thread devolved into a pointless back and forth. Of course you'll take what I have to say with a giant grain of salt and I get that, but the proof is there. Cenk criticizes Dems harshly, but he also gives praise when he thinks it's due. You can argue that he should praise more often or that his criticism is wrong (because of X, Y or Z) but I'm telling you that it has 0% to do with ratings or some other nefarious or selfish motive.

And I get it, in your opinion he's wrong and he's doing more harm than good when he's critical of the administration and Democratic party. We disagree on that and that's fine. What's not fine is if you assume that he's doing it for money and or that he doesn't want what *he thinks* is best for the country. I don't really know you, but I assume you're honest and that you also want what *you think* is best for the country.

No crazy motive, just an honest difference of opinion.

Did you really think that "joke" was constructive in any way shape or form? It honestly sounded like something the opposition would say.

And yes, it's a shame that there are so few videos like the one you posted above. (I had missed it). It was definitely buried in the sea of negativity here.

I think it's time for all groups/orgs/companies to be inclusive of ALL people and stop the self-imposed segregation!

Things that need to be renamed:

1) BET/Black Entertainment Television (people would have a fit if there was a network titled 'WET/White Entertainment Television')
2) Black Image Awards (there isn't 'White Image Awards')
3) Black Entertainment Awards (there isn't a 'White Entertainment Awards' ceremony)
3) Black Movie Awards (people would have a fit if there was a show on TV named 'White Movie Awards')
4) The Black Web Awards (what's up with that?)
5) Black History Month (a generic 'History Month' covering ALL people would be better)
Etc, etc, etc.

We will never have true unity until everyone comes together and stops the separation.

It is employed all over the rest of the world in an attempt to over turn the entrenched racism which exists through institutionalised practices.
Not recognizing black and other disadvantaged groups means that they will be permanently discriminated against through the institutionalised bias towards whites.

There is an absolute need for positive discrimination and that is why it is practised all over the world in an attempt to correct the imbalances of hundreds of years of white oppression.


The whites abhorrence of anything which promotes this is the most EXTREME form of racism there is - as evidenced by your post.

when there are a representative ration of blacks in congress, blacks in mainstream tv, CEO's, prison populations, poverty, etc are in place - then and only then can you claim that any efforts to correct the extreme institutionalised imbalance as racism.

Why don't Americans understand ANYTHING - literally - anything at all? Everything has to be explained to them like little children - it is so frustrating.

What you are calling 'positive discrimination' is teaching the younger generation that 'not all people are the same'.
Your positive discrimination is telling kids that they are 'different' or 'better' than everyone else - that they are 'special' because they have 'their own' groups/awards/shows/etc.

It is not helping the matter, it's only prolonging/promoting the idea of separatism.

The 'old days' are over, it's time to be ONE PEOPLE - not many groups of separate people.

I agree with your point, but the problem is that without things like Black History month, there would be no Black History taught.

...except for the standard Dr. King, Joe Lewis, and Jesse Owens lessons. Take away Black History Month and you're led to believe that no other Black Americans existed in or attributed to American/World History. The same for Women, Latinos, Gays/Lesbians, Asians, Native Americans, and everyone else not classified as White, male, straight, and Christian.

These (discriminatory) measures were created in response to discriminatory measures that still continue. I look forward to the day when these things aren't needed.

Washington (CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele was forced to cancel an appearance Friday before a national meeting of black journalists due to food poisoning.

"While traveling out West the Chairman came down with a bad case of food poisoning," an RNC spokesman said in an email to CNN. "He is disappointed to miss the opportunity to take part in this valuable dialogue and looks forward to engaging with NABJ in the very near future."

Steele had been in New Mexico on Thursday to attend a fundraiser for GOP gubernatorial nominee Susana Martinez.

The RNC spokesman told CNN that Steele had not been to the hospital, but that the chairman had consulted a doctor.

Steele was scheduled to address the National Association of Black Journalists, which is holding its annual meeting in San Diego.

...or they would know that Cenk gives praise when he thinks it's deserved; body slams when that is the appropriate response.

Isn't that what all of us want? More "truth to power?" If you want fawning, there are plenty of places to visit where Obama can do no wrong, but real, thinking, observant people aren't just cheerleaders to whomever occupies the Oval Office at the moment or the current Rock Star personality. Cenk understands this.

RESULTS MATTER! For GENERATIONS.

Think about it the next time you think a wonderful job is being done. Just because a bill is signed into law, that doesn't mean it was GOOD legislation. It just means another notch carved in. Great if that's how you keep score. Bad if you care what actually gets passed.
