The bad news just keeps coming. The national media are trying to reassure us that everything is under control; some local stations are still able to tell the truth.

This sort of investigative reporting is what's being lost in the cutbacks to local media news operations.

Edited to add: This YouTube member usually reports Right-Wing talking points; but, he has posted some good news reports on the Gulf disaster.

8. It IS up to us. With all due respect to Obama and the Government,
they can't possibly keep up with all the info that's flooding in.

We can take it to YouTube, get it to go viral, and (I was thinking about this last night)getting it to our local news since many people only watch their local channels.

3. the damage is happening in 'the mississippi river bottoms'
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 11:45 AM by Althaia
so I'm GUESSING the cause might be BP burning the recovered oil/corexit mix. Certainly it needs some research, with rain samples collected and sent to labs to determine what might be damaging the plants.

I'm old enough to remember the damage caused by acid rain in New England, during the 1970s and '80s. That was caused by industry in the Midwest burning coal without any kind of filters on their chimneys, thereby creating sulfuric acid rain. It was about as acidic as vinegar.

4. This video is weeks old, the story has been reported many times online.
But there is nothing I could find else where about any other reports.

We need more up to date info. from a non-right wing source.

5. You're right! I found some more recent examples.
From 3 hours ago: Corexit crop contamination in south for yrs to come from gulf oil spill dispersant

From 20 hours ago: UPDATE: TOXIC OIL RAIN IN IOWA ? - More plant damage - Horticulturist No Clue

From July 15, the first video by the poster above: TOXIC OIL RAIN IN IOWA ? - Pray for everyone affected by the BP gulf oil spill disaster.

From 1 day ago: BP poisoned the Gulf of Mexico Day 81

I really didn't check to see whether other videos by the posters above were right or left in political orientation.

Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 12:06 PM by tnlurker
There was a follow up about one month later that a jet had dumped fuel on an emergency return to the airport in that area the day it happened.

I went back and found the link

7. OK, but you'll have trouble claiming a fuel dump caused crop damage in Iowa.
