3. You want to *really* read Marx?
Try here.

A close reading of the text of Karl Marx's Capital, Volume I in 13 video lectures by David Harvey.

David Harvey is a Distinguished Professor at the City University of New York (CUNY), Director of The Center for Place, Culture and Politics, and author of numerous books. He has been teaching Karl Marx's Capital for nearly 40 years.

7. Marx is better understood in context
My son had to do a report for history. It was about the Industrial Revolution in England, and Marx. Living and working conditions were terrible. Marx, being poor, lived alongside the factory workers. He watched at least one of his daughters die (I forget how many died) from illness caused by the poisoned air and water. The average age of death in Manchester, England, was 17, because so many children were getting killed by working in the factories.

Capitalists were literally killing the workers and their families, due to their greed.

It's no surprise Marx's language is as combative as it is. When he was writing, he was surrounded by suffering and death directly caused by capitalism.
