NASHVILLE - Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester said he was appalled by the recent callous statements made by House Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada who has introduced legislation ending unemployment benefits for Tennessee families with dependent children.

Casada's bill, HB3206, was defeated in the House Subcommittee on Employee Affairs on Wednesday despite state Reps. Donna Rowland of Murfreesboro and Mark White of Memphis voting for it.

"Well, I think we all need you to do the best you can to find a job, is what I suggest," Casada replied during the hearing when asked how affected families should feed their children without the benefits.

Forrester said Casada's unconcern for the state's struggling families underscores the fundamental difference between the General Assembly's Democrats and its Republicans.

our families and our children who are going hungry it is time to stop funding killing machines, and start funding human beings.

2. Maybe we should put Casada out of his job .....
in the position of average people who are trying desperately to find work in this economy with so many jobs shipped offshore by people who share Casada's philosophy, and see how that works out for him.

Casada's bill and his remarks not only underscore the difference between Democrats and Republicans, they underscore the difference between human beings and barbarians. All hail to the party of "NO." They have outdone themselves again.

24. And Sen. Coburn who currently has a HOLD on extending unemployment benefits . . .
Actually, what we need is a SUPERFUND created to help the unemployed with

extended benefits -- and it should be raised from elites/CORPORATES who have

so handsomely profited from this "unemployment" -- i.e., harvesting slave labor

in other countries!

38. Absolutely .....
The super fund is a terrific idea and it could be funded by windfall profit taxes earmarked only for this purpose on the corporations who ship jobs offshore, use slave labor to engorge their profits even more and then turn around and sell us back merchandise that is substandard and in some cases dangerous to the consumer.

There could also be protective tariffs on goods manufactured by the corporations who work offshore to take a lot of profit out of their processing and some negative tax credits too.

If we could find legislators who would do it, corporations based here and benefiting from our economy (or at this time our lack of an economy) they should start passing some laws to keep business and manufacturing here along with jobs, purchase of supplies and sales.

7. Asshole!
Do you want the STRONGARM of the GOVERNMENT to take the money out of your back pocket?

No.

I want US, the people of Tennessee, to come together and use what little we might have to help those of us who have even less. I cannot help the 322,000 unemployed people in Tennessee by myself as you suggest, Mr. Casada. I can't even help one family by myself.

But me and the other 5.5 million of us can all put a little in the pot to tide them over until they can get on their feet.

That's the social contract.

If you prefer to see children starving, perhaps you should go live in North Korea?

Great thinking there, Einstein! Then what are we supposed to do? Curl up and die? the asshole in this case is of the male persuasion.

Obviously, you must not be pulling your bootstraps hard enough. Apparently, that is the only trick needed, as expressed by Republicans, for instant fame and fortune. Their family fortunes and dishonest business dealings are completely irrelevant, just to make it clear... in case you are looking for an excuse to hate on them for their "hard earned success". (sarcasm tag on of course ;-))

Sorry to hear about your situation, wish we were a far more compassionate society which had an actual fucking plan.

And to pressure Federal government to overturn the trade agreements which have

closed 50,000 of our manufacturing plants in the last 10 years!!

That was the original intention of the tax on corporations to fund unemployment --

and we need a SUPERFUND NOW to cover all the unemployed ---

and the elites/corporates who have made all of this money should be taxed for this

destructive policy!

53. Agree with you -- disgusting state of mind for any human being -- !!!
Otoh, you have to remember that we have a few concepts floating around which

are suicidal --

Patriarchy -- it's underpinning, Organized Patriarchal Religion -- and its economic system:

Capitalism --

This is the "bird with one wing" -- forcing nations/peoples to honor their male-supremacist

beliefs -- and capitalism a system based on exploitation of nature and humans.

Capitalism is a ridiculous "King-of-the-Hill" system intended to move the wealth and resources

of a nation from the many to the few. It works quite successfully!

Unregulated capitalism which we are suffering currently is merely organized crime!

These systems have given us Global Warming -- they will take us all with them!

36. Casada: Let the "Smaller Government" begin!
This illustrates what conservatives have wanted all along, and this clip also shows what happens when an economic downturn and subsequent budgetary limitations align themselves with right-wing ideology. Make no mistake about it, events such as this are seen as "moments of opportunity" by those on the right. No money, no regrets, and tough shit! But yes, the solution is at hand -- Go and get a job, even if there are none to be found. Sort of like being stranded on foot at high noon in the middle of the Sahara with sound advice to "go get a drink of water".

44. Budget is ALWAYS a matter of priorities. . .
and his priorities are obviously not the basic needs of families. Our school system just laid off a couple of teachers as well as aids due to the anticipated drop in state funding for the coming year. Overall, it is estimated that 17 thousand teachers in Illinois will lose their jobs. Yet, our schools new principle just had her office redecorated to the tune of 20 thousand dollars! That really hit the fan with the community and parents. The principals response was "that money came out of a different part of the budget." It's time to look at where budgets can be changed and costs trimmed (administration is a good place to start)so that basic needs can be met.
