What a lady - we need someone with her courage, fortitude and oratorical skills in this day and age. She is sorely missed. :(

a great woman. She is, indeed, sorely missed. I was born in 1966, so I was too young to cry over RFK or MLK passing. I think Barbara Jordan is the first politician whose passing brought a tear to my eye.

2. There will never be another like her in this lifetime

Former Representative Jordan came to prominence on the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate hearings, but the 1976 Democratic Convention keynote address made her a political superstar.

My mother and I watched the convention, and after Ms. Jordan finished addressing the delegates, we both had chills running up and down our respective spines. History was definitely made that evening.

Unfortunately, by the time an opening came up on the court, the multiple sclerosis that claimed Ms. Jordan's life had become so advanced that it was impossible.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg was the eventual nominee.

The excerpt does not do it justice. I was not old enough to witness the speech, but it has kept my faith in the Democratic Party nevertheless. Truly, a great, patriotic woman.
