17. Check out the HAARP facility in Alaska.
For something that supposedly doesn't exist, it's a pretty big compound.

Actually, our government DOES have the technology to create earthquakes.

I've been reading the chatter elsewhere about the Haiti earthquake and some scientists are questioning why the island's large quake did not create some sort of tsunami.

By the way, there are PATENTS covering HAARP:

The main idea behind HAARP is the ability to direct electrons along the naturally occurring magnetic field lines of the Earth and accelerate them to near the speed of light to form a protective shell of highly excited particles that not only block communications worldwide, but destroy missiles and their trajectory as they descend from space. The effects can be localized by punching a hole through the ionosphere to superheat an area 30 kilometers in diameter into a plasma shield. Any missile or aircraft would be destroyed that tried to fly through the plasma, which is the fourth state of matter. A hole in the ionosphere could kill by allowing the solar radiation to strike the surface of the Earth unhindered. Weather modification can also be used as an instrument of warfare by manipulating the electrojet and the jet streams which dictate climate.

The project is a creation of the U.S. Air Force and Naval Research. Publicly it is an ionospheric research instrument, but it can be used to control weather and do electromagnetic sweeps that be used for mind control of large populations.

HAARP, located 30 miles from Fairbanks Alaska,
is the real focus of anti-missile defense that SDI, the Strategic Defense Initiative, purported to be, and much more. The public patent was titled A Method and apparatus for altering a region in the earths atmosphere, ionosphere, and/or magnetosphere. Dr. Bernard Eastlund, a physicist who holds a patent for the fusion torch also holds about a dozen other related patents that were eventually purchased by E-Systems and Raytheon.

Patent 4686605 claims the following uses.
cause total disruption of all forms of communications over a very large portion of the Earth
missile or aircraft destruction, deflection, or confusion
weather modification by altering solar absorption
also altering composition of the atmosphere

This patent was classified by the Navy under national security order in 1987, but other patents exists for purposes of:

Power beaming system (US Patent 5068669 )
Artificial ionospheric mirror composed of a plasma layer (US Patent 5041834)
Creation of artificial ionization clouds above the earth (US Patent 4999637)
Defense system for discriminating between objects in space (US Patent 4817495)
Nuclear-sized explosions without radiation (US Patent 4873928)

25. You also might want to read about the works of a scientist named Tesla
When Tesla died, the government took all of his research papers and classified them, and they remain classified to this day.

Here's some interesting info on Tesla and man-made earthquakes for those of you who realize our government is doing some VERY in depth research into weather control, mind control, bio terror, etc in the name of gaining newer and better weapons.

Earthquakes: Natural or Man-Made?
by Jason Jeffrey

Suppressed Research: Tesla Technologies

Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Nikola Tesla is one of the 20th centurys greatest scientists. A prodigious inventor of electronic devices and pioneer of free energy, Tesla never gained the recognition he deserved because his scientific breakthroughs were deemed too sensitive by the corporate and government powers of the day.

In a book entitled Tesla The Lost Inventions, a section is headed Man-Made Earthquake. It discloses Teslas fascination with the power of resonance and how he experimented with it not only electrically but on the mechanical plane as well. In his Manhattan lab, Tesla built mechanical vibrators and tested their powers. One experiment got out of hand.

Tesla attached a powerful little vibrator driven by compressed air to a steel pillar. Leaving it there, he went about his business. Meanwhile, down the street, a violent quaking built up, shaking down plaster, bursting plumbing, cracking windows, and breaking heavy machinery off its anchorages.

Teslas vibrator had found the resonant frequency of a deep sandy layer of subsoil beneath his building, setting off a small earthquake. Soon Teslas own building began to quake. It is reported that just as the police broke into his lab, Tesla was seen smashing the device with a sledge hammer, the only way he could promptly stop it.

In a similar experiment, on an evening walk through the city, Tesla attached a battery powered vibrator, described as being the size of an alarm clock, to the steel framework of a building under construction. He adjusted it to a suitable frequency and set the structure into resonant vibration.

The structure shook, and so did the earth under his feet. Tesla later boasted he could shake down the Empire State Building with such a device. If this claim was not extravagant enough, he went on to say a large-scale resonant vibration was capable of splitting the Earth in half.

An article from the July 11, 1935 issue of the New York American entitled Teslas Controlled Earthquakes, stated Teslas experiments in transmitting mechanical vibrations through the Earth called by him the art of telegeodynamics were roughly described by the scientists as a sort of controlled earthquake.

The article quotes Tesla as saying:

The rhythmical vibrations pass through the Earth with almost no loss of energy. It becomes possible to convey mechanical effects to the greatest terrestrial distances and produce all kinds of unique effects. The invention could be used with destructive effect in war

The January 1978 edition of Specula magazine ran an article describing an incredibly profound phenomenon that could be produced within the Earth by what is called the Tesla Effect.

According to the article, electromagnetic signals of certain frequencies can be transmitted through the Earth to form standing waves in the Earth itself. In certain cases, coherence to this standing wave can be induced wherein a fraction of the vast, surging electromagnetic current of the Earth itself feeds into and augments the induced standing wave.

In other words, much more energy is now present in the standing wave than the ...amount being fed in from the Earths surface. By interferometer techniques, giant standing waves can be combined to produce a focused beam of very great energy. This can then be used to produce earthquakes induced at distant aiming points.

Tesla expressed grave concerns about the effects of this technology because it is exactly the type of thing that could easily get out of control once it begins vibrating within the Earth and it could actually cause the Earth to vibrate to pieces.

Another leading Tesla researcher and nuclear engineer, Lt. Col. Thomas Bearden, lecturing at a Symposium of the US Psychotronics Association (USPA) in 1981, stated:

Tesla found that he could set up standing waves in the Earth (the molten core), or, just set it up through the rocks the telluric activity in the rocks would furnish activity into these waves and one would get more potential energy in those waves than he put in. He called the concept the Tesla Magnifying Transmitter (TMT).

Bearden goes on to explain how TMTs worked:

They will go through anything. What you do is that you set up a standing wave through the Earth and the molten core of the Earth begins to feed that wave (we are talking Tesla now). When you have that standing wave, you have set up a triode. What youve done is that the molten core of the Earth is feeding the energy and its like your signal that you are putting in is gating the grid of a triode Then what you do is that you change the frequency. If you change the frequency one way (start to dephase it), you dump the energy up in the atmosphere beyond the point on the other side of the Earth that you focused upon. You start ionising the air, you can change the weather flow patterns (jet streams etc) you can change all that if you dump it gradually, real gradually you influence the heck out of the weather. Its a great weather machine. If you dump it sharply, you dont get little ionisation like that. You will get flashes and fireballs (plasma) that will come down on the surfaces of the Earth you can cause enormous weather changes over entire regions by playing that thing back and forth.

HAARP: The Pentagons Ultimate Weapon

In an Arctic compound 450 kilometres east of Anchorage, Alaska, the Pentagon has erected a powerful transmitter designed to beam more than a gigawatt of energy into the upper reaches of the atmosphere. Known as Project HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program), the experiment involves the worlds largest ionospheric heater, a device designed to zap the skies hundreds of kilometres above the Earth with high-frequency radio waves.

Why irradiate the charged particles of the ionosphere (which when energised by natural processes make up the lovely and famous phenomenon known as the Northern Lights)? According to the US Navy and Air Force, co-sponsors of the project, to observe the complex natural variations of Alaskas ionosphere. As well, admit the Pentagon, to develop new forms of communications and surveillance technologies to enable the military to send signals to nuclear submarines and to peer deep underground.

Ever since the existence of HAARP became public, a number of independent researchers have warned the operation has a secret agenda including weather modification, mind control, hi-tech military experiments, and the triggering of earthquakes.

HAARP transmissions may also be used for the detection and monitoring of electromagnetic or plasma phenomena, precursors of seismic activity and tectonic movement. Researchers believe HAARP transmissions are actually being used to activate or trigger exactly the same electromagnetic conditions that can cause tectonic movement.

Jerry Smith in his book HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy, warns many atmospheric scientists working on the secretive military project might be unaware of HAARPs grave potential to wreak havoc on the Earth. He writes:

If HAARP is a TMT , and these researchers correctly understand Teslas work, we could be in a lot of trouble. It is quite possible that the scientists working on HAARP do not know what they are playing with Beyond that their ignorance might be compounded if HAARP is indeed a secretive black-ops military project. The military has devised a way of keeping secrets called compartmentalisation where each unit knows only what it needs to know Only the control group knows whats going on If there is a control group familiar with TMTs directing the actions of scientists unschooled in Tesla technology, those lower level operatives could be directed to wreak havoc with created weather or manufactured earthquakes.

The key technology behind HAARP is the brainchild of scientist Bernard Eastlund. Judging from his APTI patent, Tesla was a major inspiration for Eastlunds ionospheric heater. A New York Times story, dated December 8, 1915, describes one of Teslas ideas which are remarkably similar to Eastlunds.3

44. Cart before the horse.
First off, that supposed 'earthquake' Tesla supposedly triggered, wouldn't actually be an earthquake. If he triggered a fault, smashing the machine wouldn't stop the earthquake. So if it happened, it was just good old mechanical sympathetic resonance.

And "HAARP transmissions may also be used for the detection and monitoring of electromagnetic or plasma phenomena, precursors of seismic activity and tectonic movement. Researchers believe HAARP transmissions are actually being used to activate or trigger exactly the same electromagnetic conditions that can cause tectonic movement."

This is crap. The magenetic phenomena associated with earthquake precursors do not cause earthquakes, they are a side effect or result of strain, uplift and other geological pressures.

There are absolutely ways for human activity to trigger a fault, and produce not only an earthquake, but swarms of earthquakes. None of those ways apply to what happened in Haiti.

However, making a building shake, if that even happened, is not even worth talking about whaen it comes to a 7.1 Earthquake!!!!

On top of that folks here want to say our Government gave the order, or perhaps Obama flipped the switch himself, and caused the earthquake on Haiti via HAARP in Alaska! WHATEVER!

I know geologist cause vibrations via explosions or special vehicles that pound the ground in order to understand the make-up of what might be undergraound...However, NOTHING we do in the name of science or all out war matches the earthquake in Hatia! NOTHING! LOL!

43. You must be joking.
It not only exists, it's not and never has been even classified, and as a civilian, you can visit and tour it.

The military does indeed have an interest in it, because some of the technology tested there can improve military hardware around communications, look-down radar from sattelites, etc. But HAARP is not a weapon. It's not even powerful enough to generate aurora borealis of it's own.

19. I'm right fucking here.
This is the same video as yesterday.

Can you translate Spanish? What is he saying in the stock footage in the background? Russia Today is quoting an OPINION piece in a right-wing Spanish newspaper, that was picked up by IRANIAN propaganda. There was some nonsense posted to the official Venezualan television site that quoted an apparently fake Russian report blaming the U.S., but that is not "Hugo Chavez said..." Did he approve its posting? Did he say anything in support of it?

I am not a fan of Hugo Chavez, but I am a fan of the TRUTH. If he said it, prove it. I asked for proof in two different threads all day yesterday, as Muriel_Volestrangler tracked down the source of this "incident," that Chavez ACTUALLY said the U.S. set off the earthquake. No one came up with anything. What were his exact words? Where was he when he said them? Who did he say them to? Who with any legitimacy will verify it? I can easily imagine him saying it, maybe he did, but that is not the same thing as his actually saying it.

Until someone proves he said it, this is just more right-wing slander and propaganda and misinformation attack. I will be more than willing to admit that he said it if someone verifies he said it, but until then, this is the stuff of that other website.

On the other hand, RT has earned a lot of journalistic respect from me, on many, many issues it has covered, much like Al Jazeera, where they honestly reported news, while the US Mainstream media happily spread disinformation and spin..

I'm having a hard time accepting the idea that RT would spread disinformation or lies about frankly, the leader of one of Russia's strategic partners for both economic and military issues.

For using the word 'fucking.' I was a bit riled up when I saw yet another of these posts implying that Chavez directly spoke words to the effect that the U.S. used a weapon to cause the attack. Also, as everyone hear is aware, it's been a bad week.

I, too, have been very impressed by Russia Today. I think that what they would say in their defense is that the "press release" citing the bogus Russian Navy report was on a state TV site, and that journalism practice allows for any opinion that appears in any government's communication machinery to be attributed to the head of that government. In this case, I think they were really pushing this. THE BEST I CAN ASCERTAIN, we have no idea who put the thing up on the website. We have no idea who ordered it taken down. It could have been Chavez. We have no idea of how much, if any, involvement Chavez had in this. The RT report strongly implied that the video was of him saying the words, and many here on DU acted as if it was fact. I don't think they were deliberately attacking Chavez. I think they got lazy, or confused. It happens. It wouldn't have hurt for them to make a phone call to the Venezuala government for confirmation.

Chavez may have been fine with it. He may have had a hand in it, but if he believes this, why is there no other reported instance of him speaking about it? There is indication that a college professor associated with the government "has suspicions" that the U.S. caused the earthquake. That is not Chavez.

Thank you for your reasoned response. And again I apologize if it appeared I was attacking you personally.

I'll say it again. Presidente Hugo Chavez, porque no te callas. In fact, callate que me desesperass!!!

13. Hugo and Pat Robertson need to be put in a padded room together.
Hugo had his moments, like when he dissed Bush at the U.N., but he's getting as crazy as some of our conservative nutso's.

14. Lies. He didn't say it.
There's a Russian article on a Venezuelan government site that says it, but no footage and no quotes of Hugo Chavez saying it. Fascist propaganda at its best.

It's hysterical how many of you line up and lap up that tasty bullshit. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

There is no freaking translation. He never said it. It's a lie, which you know and you're spreading deliberately. Nice.

18. Where did he say it? When did he say it? Who was he with when he said it?
Where is the proof?

There is NOTHING in that video that confirms this story. There is NO evidence that Chavez has said it or thinks it. He may have. But PROVE it.

This is the same video as yesterday. There is nothing new here. The source is a RIGHT-WING Spanish newspaper OPINION piece mentioning that a fake Russian Report was posted to a Venezuelan government website.

23. How embarrassing. You put up a Russian video
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 08:52 PM by EFerrari
that cites a right wing Spanish paper that cites a Russian Navy report and has nothing to do with Chavez but the file footage?

I take it you're not a Spanish speaker and you can't understand a word of the video?

Embarrassing.

26. And DUer Muriel_Volestrangler, who actually tried to confirm the report, said the Russian report
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 08:58 PM by Hissyspit
was bogus.

Since the report the best I can tell was mentioned on a state Venezualan website, it could POSSIBLY have been approved by Chavez. He may have actually said that he believes this. But I have seen NO proof.

It's bullshit.

If there was audio or video of Chavez saying this, it would be all over the world.

It isn't. It's a fake.

48. No. We ADMITTED it COULD be true, went and did RESEARCH to see if it was, concluded it WASN'T.
THIS is what happened.

Hey, I'm still open to the existence of video or audio proving he did say that. You have that?

Yup, didn't think so.

Try to act like a thinking person next time. You seem to be having great difficulty accepting the fact that some statement that titillates your opinions isn't true.

Remember the picture of Bush reading a book upside down? I wanted to believe it was true, but once it was proved it was photoshopped, I ACCEPTED the truth.

Do likewise. It's necessary for personal growth.

60. conspiracy theories
In a 2008 academic paper, President Barack Obama's appointee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs advocated "cognitive infiltration" of groups that advocate "conspiracy theories"

Cass Sunstein, a Harvard law professor, co-wrote an academic article entitled "Conspiracy Theories: Causes and Cures," in which he argued that the government should stealthily infiltrate groups that pose alternative theories on historical events via "chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine" those groups
