7. Thanks! The crazy thing is, I was laid off on 9/23 from my job that I started in Jan. 2002.

So this has clearly been a pretty amazing turn of events, and I consider myself lucky to have found (an awesome) job so quickly. For the first time in my life I'll be doing something I'm passionate about.

Moving from Chicago to LA will be interesting, that's for sure. I can't wait to have a non-brutal winter, among other things!

Lots of not so fun things need to happen between now and the end of December (long story). And yeah, that month was rough, for many reasons. My immune system took a hit and I've had a really bad cold for the last week.

Oh well, I can't complain. Being able to talk politics with my boss and coworkers is going to be awesome. Much better than talking about 'productivity reports'. ;)

86. The last couple of years have been terrible for all 4 seasons IMO.

The summers have been cool and cloudy, the winters and falls abnormally cold, cloudy and snowy (according to the local weather reports) and the springs have been, well, springs. This October alone is reason enough to move with temps more than 10 degrees below average all month.

111. I was born in the Chicago area

and spent most of my life there. It seemed to me that the weather was getting worse every year. We moved in 2001 and the summers were insufferable. Weather became the primary focus of everyone's life and it could change it a heartbeat. Very stressful and exhausting.

I truly miss the food though. Chicago had the best restaurants of anywhere I've ever been, both food and service.

I'm in a similar business and I moved to LA from the Midwest. You will love it, esp because you are ALREADY working in your field. You'll see what I mean after you've been there for a few years, and every cab driver tries to get you to hire them (even if you have no ability to hire anyone) or has a screenplay for you to read. LOL.

The food is GREAT, the attitudes much more progressive and tolerant (and I moved from one of the most liberal cities in the midwest), and the health care can be (if you have access to it) the best in the world.

Yes, the traffic is a nightmare. Rush hour traffic at 3 AM is not a joke. But the weather...the lack of humidity. The bug-lessness! Open windows year round. It's heavenly.

My tips for making LA more liveable are: 1) Try to fly out of Burbank or Long Beach whenever possible. You will come to loathe LAX with every fiber in your being after their rabid security measures cause you to stand in 6 hour lines outside the airport; it will happen if you fly often enough. 2) live as close as possible to the beach so you can actually enjoy the best parts of LA. If you live in the more "affordable" areas (nothing there is "affordable", but the "valley" is within reason), the traffic can be a deterrent to going to the beach. It's also cooler "over the hill" (by the beach) and will save you the monstrous drive "over the hill" or on the 405 every day, depending on where work is located. 3) go see a movie at the Arclight:-) If you love film, this experience will make up for any of the hassles you experience.

You are in for an adventure of a lifetime!!! And you'll be working with progressives! I don't think it can get much better than this. Have a blast!!
