3. WOW.... I'm curious... Didyou serve?
I did and I can still appreciate the President celebrating the latin american culture during the evening while working hard to fix the mess that was dropped in his lap during the day.

Get a GRIP!

5. No, but several of my close friends did, and some died
My husband is a military historian who has spent six years listening to countless hours of stories of men and women who will bear the scars of this war for the rest of their lives. They recount the ways in which this has been mishandled from the get-go and is still a quagmire. He has also logged many hours on the phone and in person with family members who are still in grief and mourning about the loss of their loved ones - and has interviewed many commanders who have expressed concerns about this whole endeavor - names which most here would recognize.

YOU get a grip!! This war is about countless men and women - not just you and your perspective.

11. I read it.
Good for you and your husband. You are apparently extremely opposed to the war in Afghanistan.

That's fine. But why drag your single-minded soapbox in here? Do you think that the President's celebration of Latin music tonight means he is not sympathetic to the sacrifices (in blood and treasure) made in our nation's name?

Honestly, you sound like the petty hateful Republicans who were whining about him taking his daughters out for ice cream and his wife out to dinner in Paris.

12. Are you watching the Afghan civilians die as well?
Sorry, but they are dying in far greater numbers than our troops. I suppose you and I might agree that our troops don't belong there now. But it does not upset me to see the CinC out having a good time "in a time of war."

From the day I was born until the day I die, there will be an American soldier dying somewhere. Most days I won't even think about it. I'll think about it on Memorial Day, July 4th , and Veteran's Day. I'll think about it when I go to a funeral and when I'm a pallbearer for one of those boys. I'll think about it when I see the widow and the surviving family members.

I think about it every time I say the Pledge of Allegiance, sing The Star Spangled Banner, or observe a moment of silence for "our troops overseas and those who have given their lives defending our freedom and our way of life." I choke on the "defending our freedom" part, because I think it's bogus- but I do think of our soldiers.

But life goes on. I will go to a party and have a good time and think about wars and soldiers some other day.

20. okay, I didn't want to be the first to say it, but she totallly ignored him back at the table

and he even seemed to react to the snub. But, at the beginning it looked like the performer got the First Lady's OK, BUT it was the 'ooh hot baby hand-fanning' he did afterward that may have been the issue. Dancing with a performer is fine but indicating 'boy that's hot' in front of the wife is probably not a good idea. He hadn't been dancing long enough for that to be indicating that HE was hot, that's for sure.

I think he got the message. Good for Michelle. She is still his wife, don't be giving the hand-fan treatment to other women in front of me.

22. michelle over reacted, if she is not sure of shes got
she must be told immediately. One of the things that presidents do have a lot to do with diplomacy. that lady singing is married in real life and totally admires michelle and the President. She was being interviewed yesterday at a hispanic radio show. What michelle did looked rude and insecure. I was not expecthing that from her. President obama is loved and respected by regular people and by artists around the world. She must work on her insecurities if not it will affect the president.
