8. Oh good grief. Everyone goes to Mackinac Island. I absolutely love it.

Haven't been there for years, but in the late 80s - 90s I had a great job where I went there every year at least once - sometimes twice - and stayed at the Grand Hotel. Sublime. Between marriages took my Mom with me in 1995, and it was the best thing I ever did. She was fawned over and for that Depression-era woman, the Grand was an incredible experience. She had a debilitating stroke two years later and died in 2003, but I have the pictures of prominent people with her and being wonderful to her. As well they should have. She loved it, and no girlfriend at the time would have been better company.

Anyway, c'mon Mark. Mackinac Island is a wonderful part of Michigan and one of the things that make Michigan the best state in the union hands down, even though because of work I don't live there now. I will get back for retirement. I hope. Gov. Granholm - like all governors - has a beautiful home there donated to Michigan's governor many years ago. Sometimes Mark reaches too far.

P.S. Mackinac Island is the only place in the world that combines the pungent smells of fudge and horse shit. Unique.
