There was a time in School when they taught world history and geography. Its obvious these girls are clueless about other cultures and religions. Maybe public schools should have more exchange students and course work in world affairs and culture. Even the languages offered seem to be: German, Spanish, Latin, and French. Languages like Mandarin, Korean, Russian, Farsi, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, (Certainly, some Native American languages like Cherokee) should also be language options.

This is just sad that two girls have to show how badly they need to be educated. In my high school we were lucky to have people from many cultural backgrounds. We had great teachers who would talk about places around the world, and we had a high school culture fair so people could talk about their own cultural backgrounds. Introduce their native dishes, and customs. This is something that is needed badly in a country that is so involved in Internatonal affairs. It should be a no-brainer.

But i guess a lot of people fell for it.....maybe that is what molly intended....to raise awareness about this issue and the lack of knowledge about other cultures/religions that's prevalent amongst certain segments of the society. i kinda feel sorry for those who made videos(in youtube) supporting this parody video...without realizing that its a joke ;)


on a related note...i have met similar people though..especially while in college..


There was this funny(yet annoying) incident during the orientation dinner we new international students had when we came over here for college. and during the dinner there was this lady who was passing out invitations to a bible study group. she would come to each table, make a show of asking where the students hail from, and then pass a flyer to them. She came to me and did the same...I looked at it and it read "invitation to a dinner for new international students" in bold letters...but when i read the small print...it was organized by a bible study group in a local church...and the diners were "welcome to stay for the bible study session that followed the dinner. it also said that transportation would be provided for those who are willing to come.

I generally follow the philosophy that there is no such thing as a "free dinner"...so my cynical mind told me that there is something fishy about this....especially given the fact that this university was a public university. So i was pretty certain that this lady could not have been allowed by the university to distribute such fliers in a dinner hosted by the university. So i asked her if this event was one that was sponsored by and/or affiliated to the university. she was kinda taken aback by such a question and gave a grudging "no" as an answer. so I took a chance(cos i was not 100% certain that such 3rd party solicitations were prohibited during such a function) and said "correct me if I'm wrong but I do not think that you are allowed to distribute such materiel in this event". I knew I was correct cos she gave me a scathing look and tried to explain it away as "just a friendly invitation". I realized that this time and place was chosen by her/and her group specifically because it would impart an aura of authority/official sanction to such an invitation if they were handed out during the official dinner hosted by the university. So i politely told her that we would be more than glad to look at the invitation if she was to hand them out to students outside the dinner hall and not inside it, because i do not believe she had the permission to do so inside the hall. I also told her that if i am wrong she can always refer me to the ISP(international students program) director who was also at the dinner. That women gave me a murderous look and exited the hall... if looks could kill i would have been toast. The rest of the students were looking at me slack jawed....years after i can still remember that day. lol


What im trying to say is that a lot of such groups try to take advantage of people whom they perceive to be easy prey...eg: new students. Its almost like cheating in exams....tricking people to do things they would otherwise not have done. Many new students are either too overwhelmed or too shy(language-related shyness) to question such activities. I'm always for the underdog and it annoyed me to see new students being taken advantage of like this....was almost tempted to lodge a complaint with the college admin office but did not want to create a scene during my first week...



nowadays.. most of the time i dont waste my time talking sense into them and/or arguing...its not worth it. the best option is to just politely refuse and move on....and silently hope that they will enlighten themselves about history/religions of the world one day.... The irony was that the result of that experience I had as a new student was a renewed appreciation of my own culture/religion and in multiculturalism/multi religious environment.

It took me a while to realize it, but the purpose of the video is to poke fun at fundamentalists. Molly is a great actor for her age. Watch the video again and note how hard she tries not to laugh. (I suspect that the reason the video had to be cut so many times was because the girls couldn't all keep a straight face throughout the whole thing.) Then watch her other videos.

Molly seems to be a very sweet person underneath the "jesus-loving" persona. It's too bad she's getting so much hatred on YouTube. I hope it won't stop her from making more videos.
