18. I'm doing my best not to gloat.
I know this is going to be a tough transition for everyone. I say there are two trends you need to look for in the future: (1) You'll see an increase in the activity in the networks that help whites get ahead (you know, the ones that made Affirmative Action necessary.) Actually, it may not just be an increase, but it will be less clandestine as they get sloppy to reward their own; and (2) look to see what takes its place. If it's a fair diversified process, then I say, Hallelujah. But my gut instinct is, that there will be the same networks arise, only based on different ethnic backgrounds.

fuxnoise is not interested in being fair and balanced. They have no interest in advancing anything that remotely looks like it puts white male xtians in a less-powerful position because it is not in their interest to do so. As a friend of a friend of mine was told when she was interviewing for a job with fuxnoise when she suggested doing programs which would highlight minority interests, the manager interviewing her said "Oh, we don't do that. If we put something like that on the air, we would lose our audience".

Now you know who their audience is and that fuxnoise panders directly to that audience's fear, which is the loss of their perceived power structure.

You're absolutely correct. Fux News Channel has no interest in putting anyone BUT white Christian males in charge because Rupert Murdoch gets more money for it.

17. We all bear responsibility for the abuses perpetrated in our name
The vast majority of people are content to unquestioningly live their carbon-copy, consumption-oriented lives without regard for the destruction our society wreaks on the environment or 'brown people'. I won't shed any tears if the entire economic and political order protected by U.S. power comes crashing down, which seems like a more likely event by the day.

'Those in power' bear primary responsibility for the problems which result from our system, but insofar as the general population uncritically participates in that system, they are part of the "white, Christian, male power structure" and share responsibility. I include myself and almost everyone I know in that group.

I have to disagree there. Yes, there are plenty of enablers who haven't done anything wrong, but still support the system in which others do the wrongs, but I am not one of them. And I hope I never will be.

38. I submit that by participating in mainstream American life, we are
responsible for all the abuses that make that lifestyle possible. Our cars and power plants are destroying the environment, our clothing and food are produced in factories where fellow human beings work under Jungle-esque conditions. It is extremely difficult to extract oneself from this lifestyle. I suppose my frustration is really with the complications I am having in trying to assume a lifestyle less abusive of other human beings and the environment.

45. Heh. Maybe that's why I don't feel guilty about it... I've hardly been a part of 'mainstream' life.
I was raised fairly poor, we always had food on our table and a roof over our heads, but that's about it. My parents managed to find a cheap enough house for us in a 'good' school district... only to find out that it was only 'good' because the kids there were all rich enough to go off to college. I suppose that sort of thing reflects well on a school. Of course, in my case, it just meant that the school focused entirely on getting kids IN to college, without actually preparing them for it or teaching them anything useful. In fact, the only family in our neighborhood that was as poor as us... was the one black family that lived nearby. (Who we were fairly good friends with, they just happened to have kids at the same ages as we were, so we were in several of their classes. The oldest one, who was a linebacker for our school, helped us move our piano one day. It took three people to lift one end... and just one linebacker to lift the other. :) Not really relevant, but it was funny at the time. :) )
Add to that the fact that I've always been a bit eccentric anyway... so even if I won the lottery today, well, let's just say I wouldn't use the money the same way most rich people would. I would use it to help people like me. And by that, I don't mean people of matching gender, skin color and/or religion... I mean people who want to go to college but can't afford it. And people who want to get into my field, but find that their only option is doing crap drudge work for a big company (for crap money).
Hmm... maybe I should buy a lottery ticket first though... kinda hard to win without one...

50. I'm generally a guilty person
I worry about the fact that I drive a car, even though I only take it to work and back. I don't buy clothes anymore, except at second-hand stores, but shirts I get from campus groups and such are always made in sweatshops. I don't eat meat and I'm trying to kick the dairy habit as well. In short I try hard to live in accordance with my beliefs.

I'm perplexed that most of the people that live in my area (similar to where you grew up- poor family, rich suburban town) don't understand the ramifications of their consumption-oriented lives. It's frustrating, and I feel a lot of guilt by association with the whole white male paradigm, even though I try not to be a part of it.

We can have "I'd rather be smashing the White Male Christian Power structure".

Sometimes I wonder what kind of logic it takes to get to a point like that... then I realize just how rarely some people actually take the time to think things through.
I'd like to think that's what seperates us from them... the ability to look at something and think it through, even if it's something we grew up with and are used to having around. Just to stop and think: Wait... why exactly are 99% of the people in charge of us old, white, male and protestant?

"The economy is good and unemployment is low." Excuse me, McCain, but WHAT THE FUCK COUNTRY are YOU living in?

Jesus fucking christ, I've never heard such bullshit in my entire fucking life. I can only hope that as we get closer to the primaries that this passage is repeated, over and over and over and over again, until even the stupidest of right-wingers get the goddamned message.

They're both assholes and putzes and need to be denounced.

And yeah--the "white, christian male power structur" really does need to be brought down, like it should have been brought down many years ago. We're not a slave nation anymore, and minorities AND women have the right to vote and hold office, so any resemblance to the government of the early 19th century should have been long gone by now. Even England, who we fought for our independence, is now a thousand times more progressive than we are. And shit, that's saying a lot!!!!

* Forgive the "shouting" in Caps, but let's face it--the right wing can't hear it unless it IS shouted out--and even then, they're deaf to it.

13. No offense...
...but England has been far more progressive politically than the US for a big chunk of the past half century. Heck they abolished slavery earlier than this country did. Granted they were a bunch of imperialistic assholes, but the fact that a bunch of Brit ex-pats didn't feel like paying taxes doesn't make this country the end-all-be-all of freedom for most of its history. And let's not kid ourselves, the founding fathers' intended target audience for their constitution was the angloxason land owning male, I am sure some of them would have a fit if they find out that their document has been amended to protect women, minorities, and *gasp* even the poor.

I am wondering if the native Americans were having similarly heated arguments when they started seeing all those white faces showing up the woodwork. Talk about illegal immigration!

I am sick of these asshole descendants of fucking immigrants, a lot of whom were illegals to begin with, trying to shut down the door for other people. This country was made by immigrants, accept it. Ironically, Bill's peeps, the Irish, were social pariahs when they started showing up in numbers over a century ago. Heck, the first non-WASP prez that we had, a Catholic named Kennedy... did not even get to finish his presidency. The male WASP oligarchy sure can dish it out, but I have never seen such a collection of fucking whinny babies in my life.

Every guest showing up at O'really's show should bring a nice order of falafel to go. A fucking sexual pervert is now the voice of morality and high ground regarding any issue? Why can't liberals just tell these people to just "SHUT THE FUCK UP" at their faces? Noooooo, liberals have to be nice and try to maintain a dialoge with people who are not interested in the least to have any sort of rational debate with facts about anything. Jesus tap dancing Christ on a pogo stick, I never thought I would miss the European left. But the political discourse in this country seems to have been hijacked by undeducated, blowhard, lying, bullies that identify themselves with the conservative movement.

16. Quite true.
There is still a lot I admire in the Founding Fathers, but (for instance) I have a lot of difficulty NOT seeing Thomas Jefferson as a raging hypocrite of the highest order. Yes...it's slavery in general, but also Sally Hemmings specifically...how he could make some of the proclamations he did but still feel that it was okay to OWN his lover. And he said stuff about the inate inferiority of Blacks that is just offensive. And it really pisses me off when people yammer about "He was brilliant! He was a genius!" but then mutter something about "he was a product of his time" when they're trying to dismiss race and slavery. We don't accept that as an excuse for others...we certainly shouldn't accept it for a supposed genius like Jefferson.

26. Cut Ol' TJ Some Slack
I know it's going to sound like I'm defending him - BUT

He was indeed a product of his time - a time when married white women were the legal property of their husbands. They weren't chattel in the way a slave woman was to her master, but the white woman's husband controlled her money and property. She had no power beyond the influence her husband permitted her. He could abuse her and no one would think much of it. Same with children and their fathers.

Blacks did seem inferior then. They seemed so because they were never given an oppotunity to be equal. Besides, what is the point of hard work and innovation if some one else (a white man) is going to reap all the rewards of it? Those who advocate capitalism should understand this. But they didn't get this idea in the eighteenth century, it was easier to think blacks (and women) inferior. White men set up a situation which made their expectations a reality. And then they had those expectations because it was the only reality they ever knew.

Jefferson was indeed a product of his time. He was a genius too, albeit a flawed one with a blind spot.

29. One thing I love about the way that the Republican Party has
exploited its fundamentalist, racist, right wing base is that now, to get nominated, their candidates have to suck up to guys like Beck, Limbaugh, and O'Reilley, but those guys are so incapable of moderating their own comments that they taint the candidates with their extremism and make them look bad to the general public for the general election.

Steve Gilliard always warned that the devil would have his due, and that the Republican power structure would end up eventually paying for their cynical exploitation of such extremism. Remember the old proverb: If you lie down with dogs, you rise up with fleas.
