On 'Face The Nation' this a.m. Interview with Bob Schieffer.

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/05/10/cheney-limbaugh-powell/

Cheney: As a Republican, I choose Rush Limbaugh over Colin Powell.

Last week, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said that the Republican Party is in “deep trouble” because it is “getting smaller” and being led by far right polarizing figures. Specifically, he said that Rush Limbaugh “diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without.” Limbaugh then responded that Powell ought to “close the loop” and leave the Republican party instead of “claiming” to be interested in reforming it. Today on CBS’s Face the Nation, host Bob Schieffer asked Cheney about the spat. Cheney said that he comes down squarely on the side of Limbaugh:

CHENEY: Well, if I had to choose — in terms of being a Republican — I’d go with Rush Limbaugh, I think. My take on it was that Colin had already left the party. I didn’t know he was still a Republican. <...>

SCHIEFFER: And you said you’d take Rush Limbaugh over Colin Powell?

CHENEY: I would. Politically.

During the Bush administration, of course, Cheney and Powell often sparred over their differences on foreign policy. On the other hand, Cheney has long been a fervent admirer of Rush Limbaugh. In March, Cheney told CNN, “Rush is a good friend. I love him. … I think Rush is a good man and serves a very important purpose.”

1. Cheney is a total right wing neocon opportunist
He ruined our country with his neocon war for profit. Torture, ignoring Afghanistan and Pakistan. Now he is on the news circuit. He ought to be arrested and sent to Gitmo and waterboarded.

2. As Keith Olbermann said to George Bush:
"Shut the hell up."

When asked by his network overlords why he had to say, "hell," Keith answered, "I couldn't say 'fuck.'"

Why do people still let Cheney have a mic? As previously mentioned, he should be on trial for war crimes.

I bet Colin Powell is so glad he endorsed Obama over the continuing of the facist assholes.

:spank: But then Powell has served his purpose for them. He went and read that thing they wrote in front of the UN and the whole world and the MSM ate it up.

Party over country. Loyalty is the only determinant as Suskind pointed out in "The Price of Loyalty" with Paul O'Neill.

8. Powell should follow Cheney's advice
He should disown those bastards, and start talking about everything he knows that will implicate them in war crimes. The Dems should grant immunity to Powell in exchange for his testimony.

7. But would Limbaugh choose Cheney?
Cheney is one of the most reviled figures in American politics. And so is Limbaugh, of course. But the difference is that Limbaugh needs ratings. In most cases, it isn't terribly smart to align yourself with a person who is only about 15% popular. But that's pretty much who Limbaugh's audience is, so I guess there are a team. As Obama said yesterday, maybe it is time for Rush and the Dick to go to Iowa to make it official.

24. Republican Neocons Have Never Given Up on the Bush/Wolfowitz/Rove Doctrines
The Bush/Wolfowitz/Rove Doctrines were based on delusions of grandeur about Republican America's ability to dominate the world through force and dirty tricks. Just as Karl Rove was aiming for a permanent Republican majority, the Neocons were looking at a permanent US dominance as the only superpower without any true multilateral cooperation.

Colin Powell violated the "if you're not for us, your're against us" tenent of Neocon Republicanism. "Preemption, rather than reaction" summarized the Bush Doctrine. Part of the Bush Doctrine was "you're either for us or against us."

Cheney's preference to Limbaugh's fauning Neocon loyalty reflects the 'black or white' world view that the Bushies lived by. They haven't learned anything.

The Wolfowitz Doctrine detailed in the National Security Strategy Document (National Strategy to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction) promulgated by the junior Bush's administration, it promoted use of unilateral preemptive force and persuasion rather than honest multi-lateral cooperation.

Most people forget Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln waged an economic war against the South where slavery was something to be contained, not abolished, initially. Emancipation only occurred when black troops were the only way for the North to win the war.

Apparently millions continue to harbor the strange delusion that the Republican party is the party of free enterprise, and, at least since the New Deal, the party of conservatism. In fact, the party is and always has been the party of state capitalism. That, along with the powers and perks it provides its leaders, is the whole reason for its creation and continued existence. By state capitalism I mean a regime of highly concentrated private ownership, subsidized and protected by government. The Republican party has never, ever opposed any government interference in the free market or any government expenditure except those that might favour labour unions or threaten Big Business. Consider that for a long time it was the party of high tariffs – when high tariffs benefited Northern big capital and oppressed the South and most of the population.

The very name of the Republican party is a lie. The name was chosen when the party formed in the 1850s to suggest a likeness to the Jeffersonian Republicans of earlier history. This had a very slender plausibility. One of the main goals of the new party was "free soil" – preventing slavery (and Negroes) from existence in any territories, that is, future states.

Almost all current interpretations of the meaning of the Republican war against the South 1861–1865 come to rest on pretty phrases from Lincoln's speeches. If you look at primary sources, as historians used to do, you get a very different picture. In their private letters and sometimes in public speeches the Republican leaders reveal themselves to be just the ruthless villains that several previous generations of historians knew them to be. They boast about their intention to keep control of the government by any means, to keep the South captive for economic exploitation, sometimes about their intent to exterminate the Southern people.

Let us always come back to the fundamentals. The Republican party engineered and carried out a bloody war against Americans that revolutionized the basis on which our liberty had been built. They maintained a cold war for another decade, governing by force and fraud, unprecedented in American history. While in power they bribed, swindled and looted themselves to private wealth that still underpins many fortunes.

The idiot with the lowest public support WHILE in office is running around AFTER office exuding his thoughts on what should be done. Hmmm... sounds a little like he's recruiting FOR the Democrats. Sort of like how torture was supposed to help the U.S. but actually hurt the cause. He'll never learn.

Thank god for his idiocy - he's slowly lowering a knife into the throat of the GOP and doesn't even care because he ego needs to be fed - and feed it he will.

45. Powell endorsed the president because he -like a lot of americans- chose the lesser of two evils
McCain (bush 2.0) was offering the same nonsense and then some;

-MORE privatized medicine
-privatizing social security
-an Phil Graham induced economic plan that mirrored Herbert Hoover's
-more war

I'm not surprised that the man that represents the FALL of the republican party would much rather have Rush in it rather than Powell. Powell still has a conservative ideology but is against the shamelessness that Limbaugh touts on his show. Powell represents rationalism; Cheney's greatest enemy.
