The Stench of Truth 148 Doctors who fear that patients MIGHT become addicted or abuse strong medication don't prescribe adequate pain medication to their patients and consequently patients are deliberately left to suffer with chronic and acute severe pain. Also there is the fact of the Federal government tabulating and recording everything to do with pain medication. The HMO's and insurance providers are also to blame often limiting the amount of any given medication that can be dispensed within a month, regardless of need. This is a travesty.

It's worse than a travesty - try living with chronic pain and having the only "pain management" doctor in your entire city deny that the disease you have (fibromyalgia) even exists.

I know. It happened to me. Last week.

It is incredible that any doctor is that backwards at this point. Just because they don't know the biological mechanisms for fibro yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist. x(

I hope you can find another doctor who is willing to take over your pain management care even if they aren't a specialist.

6. Unfortunately, there are many in the medical community who don't

accept fibromyalgia as an actual condition. I know, as I have several clients with it, and even when they have a doc who DOES accept it as an actual condition, Labor and Industries won't pay for the pain medication. (I work with people injured on the job, and sometimes they do develop fibromyalgia.)

5. That's exactly what I was thinking.

Maybe he could have said "fucking" a few more times, just to let us know how eloquent he is.

Still, it's an easy cause to be passionate about. A good friend of mine has fibromyalgia, and cannot get relief. It has so far claimed her health and her marriage. My heart just aches for her.

4. There are companies out there that DO help people like that...

My Mom used these guys for her chronic pain www.pinnacletelemedicine.com and they flew her to a specialist that took real good care of her. They are an advocacy group / travel agency / online provider. Ok, I'm sounding like a commercial now...sorry. She loves them though...
