3. How does this guy remain in office?
What is the matter with him? I cannot figure out why anyone would say such a thing publicly. He's gotta be the stupidist Senator in the whole lot...

5. Have you been to Iowa?
This sound bite will play very well there, I suspect.

8. Pop Quiz....
Teacher: "Ok, class. What state was the first to support Obama? Anybody know? L. Coyote, I see your hand is up."

L. Coyote: "West Dakota...North Virginia?"

Teacher: "I'm sorry. Those guesses are not correct. They aren't even states. I will need a 10-page theme on Iowa and politics by Friday."

L. Coyote: "Gosh...do I have to? Wally and I have chores after school all week."

Teacher: "Yes. Clearly, you need to learn more about Iowa politics. Class dismissed."

10. Been too Iowa???
Yes.....44 of my 51 years of life

That statement is getting ridiculed on hate radio here too.....he stepped in it big time.

I see your statement as an attempted slam on Iowans....oh well....

13. Ok
Yes.....he was elected by Iowans.....no doubt.

Yes....he is getting slammed big time here for his ignorant comment. I hope The Democratic party can find a viable candidate. In past history his financial war chest has been insurmountable. I'm am hoping this comment will put a chink in his armor.

Sorry if I misunderstood.....Iowans get attacked fairly regularly on here and I tend to get defensive.

14. I have a fondness for Iowa since the caucuses. I liked hearing from the people attending.
To me, Grassley is an anomaly to your state.

Hell, I really love CT, and in particular New Haven where I live, but look who we produced out of said state and said city! If W isn't the biggest embarrassment to a city and a state, I don't know what is!

19. Unfortunately he is not an anomaly
This State is so evenly divided and slowly moving more to the left. I've watched this slow progression all my life.
Chuck is a product of the past here. He has too much money and no big names out of the Democratic party will even attempt to unseat him. He normally wins easily just as Harkin does for the other seat. I've got this slight hope he can be unseated this time around.....just need lots of money.

22. I have been in love with Tom Harkin since he called Poppy Bush
"George Herbert Hoover Bush." One of my favorites!

Good luck to you and your state. Hope you get rid of that idiot...

24. Sometimes Iowa Public Radio has both Grassley and Harkin on the air at the same time
for a call-in show -- always interesting. This hasn't happened for several months now -- I have a feeling Grassley refuses to be on the air with someone who makes so much sense. Ol' Chuck isn't as quick on his feet as he used to be, and no doubt his staff people have told him he doesn't come off well speaking spontaneously against Harkin, who is smart and articulate.

Iowa tends to be blue in the southeast and red in the northwest -- Our worst nutcase (Steve King, Rep from Iowa's Fifth District) has been ridiculed by everybody and even the Des Moines Register endorsed his opponent in the last election, calling King "an embarrassment to the state."

The caucuses were exciting beyond belief, beyond my feeble power to describe. Up here in the reddest corner of the state, my county went for Obama, and I was part of it.....and then I was a pollwatcher in November, and that was also a delight. Pollwatching was just like jury duty -- I came away with a much-enhanced respect for the system and how it works.

4. That was a stupid remark by Gassley. I think everyone went nuts because the number was huge. But
what about the people who receive a few thousand for meeting performance standards and it is part of their compensation package? My pay package is anywhere from 10 to 25% bonus and it is based on my attaining predefined goals. I would be curious to see how the bonuses were determined and if the highly compensated people have a different standard (or any standards at all besides what they can get away with) than the average worker at AIG.

9. So maybe losing $61 billion in one quarter was a "predefined goal" at AIG?

20. I just read that 71 execs including some who no longer work there got $1,000,000 bonuses.
It was possible that smaller goals were met by the employees who were not in charge but that the big weenies fucked up everything else to stuff their pockets with cash. I still think inquiry should be made before suggesting that people commit suicide. Even if they work for Republick'ns.

He'll be apologizing soon. At least it won't be someone apologizing to Rush, for a change...
