Some thoughts about SNL, Will Ferrell's HBO special and John Stewart.

1. I completely agree
I too watched both shows and laughed my ass off to Will Ferrell and was very disappointed with SNL. And I LOVE Tracy Morgan's comedy!

2. I stopped watching HBO special...
Edited on Sun Mar-15-09 11:41 AM by kirby
The HBO special was lame and not particularly funny--too crude. When he got to the Mission Accomplished skit, with the flight suit, he completely missed wearing a huge codpiece. Shortly after that I turned it off because I lost interest. Also, do I really need a special? I mean we just lived through 8 years of the nightmare called Bush, I dont need to be reminder a few weeks later.

3. I'd love to see it
But not enough to get HBO. I still have yet to view that show about the election in 2000 in Florida.

That said, I think I would like to see Bush and Cheney mocked by television into perpetuity. IT is way short of what these two killers deserve. But rich folks never get the death penalty, or any sort of punishment, Bernie Madoff excluded.

4. It was really worth seeing the whole thing
The special was carefully choreographed for the show to come together as a whole. If you looked carefully, Will Farrel himself was in personal pain, and for a comedian to dedicate his recent career to this, shows his own struggle with the last 8 years.

I don't know if you recall, but it was Will Farrel who 'called' the disaster 8 years ago in one of his Bush SNL skits.

5. Will Ferrell
I think Ferrell is one of the most gifted performers of our time ("Stranger than Fiction" is one of my favorite films.) At a time when his movie career is still white hot, it says a lot about him that he took on the challenge of writing and performing this show on Broadway. He could easily have eased his acting burden by bringing more actors into the show, but instead he chose to take on the totally 90 minutes by himself (with a bit of help from some dancers.) And yes, he called the Bush Presidency before it had even begun.

6. So it was too crude AND he left out the codpiece
Now there's a well-thought out opinion

8. Did you see it too?
The codpiece (and Al Frankens joking about it in the past) can be really humorous. Part of the crude was the photo of a persons (Will's?) penis that he kept putting up on the screen for a cheap laugh.
