1. My kid's school holds a contest every year about who can recite (memorize) the digits of "pi"
out to the farthest level/decimal. And, of course, almost EVERYONE, brings in some pie to share :-).

It (math) IS/can be fun! :-)

2. For a minute I thought someone was going to repeat the
mistake of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1897, when they attempted to pass legislation defining the
value of PI to be 3.0 or 3.14 (depending on which story you hear).

http://www.snopes.com/religion/pi.asp

It didn't pass back then, but you never know with today's morons that get themselves elected somehow.

Witness this gem:

Because, ya' know, Animal Husbandry is the study of man on dog sex or something. Ask Rick Santorum.

way than just print a paper. If folks can see how education works in everyday terms it can make learning that more intresting, than being bombarded with facts. Plus some folks learn better from hands on experience. Hey, I confess I'm no genius myself but can see peple learn in different ways.

I wish I was making this up, but it's true.

On Thursday, 10 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted against an official (but non-binding) resolution declaring today, March 14, 2009 (3/14/09) as Pi day.

The House periodically passes meaningless non-binding resolutions that frankly have no point, but they usually pass unanimously, the like one the previous day about NASA

Pi day, first celebrated by a bunch of scientists from San Francisco 21 years ago .....

8. What if America celebrated Pi Day without the ignorant Republicons?
What if we just had a Pi day and not tell them. Would they even notice? Or would Republicons go around all day buying and eating pies?

9. Doesn't the ever-lovin' Old Testament claim that Pi is exactly three?
Republicans voting "aye" could get in trouble with the fundies...
