1. Very clever. He has some creative people working for him, there's no doubt.
I like Richardson, but I don't think he did well at the first debate. He said several things that I didn't care for, and there was something about his body language. I can't put my finger on it, but he'll need to do better in future debates.

But with clever ads like this, they will certainly help him I think.

3. He wasn't bad, not really.
I guess there was an uneasiness to him. Maybe it was the venue, perhaps he was tired, I don't know. He has a good sense of humor, and I like that. We're going to need someone with a good sense of humor to follow fuzzball into the White House.

5. me being the practical joker i am...
i think thats why i am so drawn to him. i like a guy with a funny bone. but it seems that most the candidates on the dem side are real cut ups. i donno....

i see you support edwards, thanks for not cramming his facts down my throat. it seems that any time some one post a topic about a certain candidate every one gets all hisy fit about why they're guy's better. (i'm surprised this thread hasn't been flamed yet) thanks for being civil. if edwards is anything like you, i'm gonna check him out too. i just want to discuss the good attributes about our candidates right now, wait for the mud slinging later.

9. There is Something I Can't Put My Finger On Either
that prevents me from fully supporting Richardson.

I understand he's a centrist, but he uses more conservative means toward goals of greater equality and prosperity, that's OK with me.

Let me put it this way: Gore and Dean were both centrists who found a way in a campaign to rally the troops. Richardson sounds like he has no passion, is not on a mission, and wants to avoid rocking the boat. That is not the way to get voters excited.

He admirably said that he's not going to change his positions for the primaries. But he does have be a much better campaigner and connect with the voters.

10. Debating may not be his thing.
Perhaps he excells in speeches, or in interviews. I've seen him on TV a few times and he seemed to do pretty well there. Debates may just not be his strong point.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about all of the Dem candidates, because I believe one of them will be the next President. Right now, I think Edwards is the one, but I have questions about him as well.

Really, I think it's just too early for anyone to be 100% committed to a candidate. There will be more information forthcoming, more interviews, debates, etc., and with each will come opportunities to narrow the field and make decisions.

I do know that it will not be in our best interest to bicker with each other over Democratic candidates, especially at this early date, because our goal should be to make sure that the GOP gets their butt kicked hard in 2008. In Congress as well as the White House.

17. Edwards is the favorite around here.
That's suburban to rural Ohio. The feeling is that he is most likely to flip a few red states. Since WWII, Democrats who won national elections were Truman (Missouri), JFK (MA, only 20th cent. candidate to lose OH but win the general), LBJ (TX), Carter (GA), Clinton (Akansas) and, realistically, Al Gore (TN). See a pattern there? The North East loses electoral votes with each census. I don't know if the country necessarily wants Southerners, but they sure as hell don't want North-Easterners.

How 'bout Edwards or Richardson vs. Guillianni or Romney? Shoe's on the other foot now! A man of the people, or another North-East wuss?

16. My feeling is...
...voters are sick of being excited. They may just want someone who is qualified, level headed and can get the job done without everything being about him or about him vs. the other side. I think competence and anti-corruption will be what motivates voters in 2008. People don't dislike Bush because he is a hawk or too conservative, but because he is a self-absorbed asshole who can't seem to do anything right.

This country has been in one continuous election season since 2000. Speaking as a political junkie, I'M sick of it. If he can survive the first few primaries (and that is a big if) I think people will find him appealing.

25. Ditto that..........
I'm a political junkie as well, but I'm getting burned out.

Richardson is extremely qualified and has a lot of character as well. Unfortunately, he seems ill at ease as a presidential candidate, but it is still early. He has the credentials, he just needs the self-confidence to sell them.

4. He ran positive ads in the state election
and although he was fortunate in his adversary (a perennially losing political hack), his ads undoubtedly brought out some of the vote that had been rabidly apathetic toward him.

It's a refreshing commercial, but I'd still rather see him as SOS.

13. So are these still in the net-only phase?
If he can keep a sense of humor like this, I'll have to seriously consider supporting him. He is plenty popular with the party here in Nevada already, he did a couple fundraising events for the local party so... here's to hoping he can pull himself up out of the second tier.

19. Here is a page with about a dozen videos with Richardson.
He talks about his position on certain issues. It's worth a look.

23. The man can wrestle the bear.
Edited on Wed May-09-07 08:37 PM by NastyDiaper
On ideology, I pretty much like the D08 lot.

But Richardson can take the bear down when the debate turns to a charge.

I expect he's my choice if Gore does not run.

Even though I wear DK08 garb. Hard to believe we are only starting.
