This is the only clip I have (though the full broadcast can be purchased from Vanderbilt University in B&W and timecoded for $150.00 ... YIKES!!! But I do believe Vanderbilt University students and faultily get a big discount) ... check out those state-of-the-art graphs (the extract was a little-off, but he says that pot smoking is "epidemic" among soliders in Vietnam)

1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that all being done mechanically back then?
Regardless, they did the best they could with what they had at the time, and at least it wasn't in black-and-white! :)

I still - vaguely - remember watching evening TV with my dad in the very early 70s before he became ill. Everything was way primitive compared to now but a lot of it was still fun to watch.

9. I believe it was mechanical ....
I have a clip of the breaking news of the death of LBJ (I youtubed it) and Cronkite uses a phone (with a cord of all things) to gather the info.

11. Ha, well okay then
y'all got me beat - don't feel quite so "old" now :toast: I was a junior in HS in October 1970. My draft desgination was 1H in 72 and I missed VN because my number was high and it was winding down before I might have been called. My older brother's number was 1 - yeah that's right 1. He said it was the only lottery he ever won. He went down to the Navy recruiter next day and spent 20+ years in the Navy - he lucked out and didn't get sent to the war.

6. It was my first year of college
I always liked Howard K. Smith. He was on ABC back then, which was a distant third behind CBS and NBC. They used to joke that ABC stood for the "Almost Broadcasting Company". "Uncle" Walter Cronkite was on CBS news, with Chet Huntley(a pompous ass)and David Brinkley on NBC news. Since those days the nightly news has gone to shit, fancy digital graphics non withstanding.

3. It's also fun to watch Classic Football games from the early 70's
Those Nebraska games when they ran the Wishbone.

Those Michigan games when they ran the Option.

And the graphics look really archaic now.

8. I have a few 1970's NFL games ....
A 1977 Rams/Eagles one with Joe Namath QBing for the Rams was pretty entertaining, but I didn't care much for the others ... I believe the Colts ran the wishbone in the early 1980's - no wonder Elway didn't want to play there - and the Chiefs a few years earlier under Marv Levy

14. I kinda like it. Now the news shows look like Entertainment Tonight
Ok, they are a little "sparce" but really, the news was "serious" back then. Now it's all about quick edits and flashy graphics because gawd forbid someones attentions span is tested,
