1. I would love to hear from the older D.U. people hear about this
transition. I don't ever remember feeling like this either, but I just feel as if Obama is already taking over. What do other's think?

2. it's definitely, more visible, more discussed due to cable news and such
I'm not sure if they have usurped power, per se, but they certainly are pushing their formidable weight around on a very unpopular mis-administration. thankfully, this will take the heat off the Carter administration - they didn't deserve the ridiculous over the top calls of being a horrible administration, as this B*sh squad has totally set a new low in American politics and extra-Constitutional actions.

11. 1976 til 1980!
them were wonderful years. I met a kid on the gulf islands near Vancouver who use to walk to Guatamala ever year, from Canada, carrying only a backpack; no id or money! Then stooge regan came along in fall of 1980, and ...well, there goes the best society that ever was imho! Regan set out to bankrupt the USA (he did) by massive military spending/waste/corrupting government (see Savings/loan scandal, or Iran Contra/October surprise) and the rot is still spreading. Keeerist, bush the stooge is going to get away with MASS MURDER (not to mention murdering lawmaker Paul Wellstone etc!)...corruption means rot, and rot means decay, and decadence is only cool when the foundations are solid- which the repukkes made sure are not, by attacking them like termites attack a roadside shack

3. Well, I can never remember a more hideous mis-administration than this
Bush and Co have led us into such deep shit that Obama has to seize power as quickly as possible.

5. No president in my lfetime has been greeted with such anticipation as President Obama
I'm 57. I can ask my dad, who is 97, about the FDR transition in 1932. That is about the only thing this compares to in the last hundred years.

Some, but very few at DU, may have felt the same way about Reagan during the 1980 transition. That was a reaction to Carter's failures as president, just as much of this are a reaction to Bush's even greater failures. But compared to what a stinking mess Obama is being handed, Reagan was given given a bed of roses by the outgoing administration (when there was double digit inflation, high unemployment, soaring gas prices and a messy situation in Iran); also, Reagan was still seen as an extremist by many while Obama inspires more confidence even among those who didn't vote for him.

9. I REALLY want to hear what your dad has to say.
I'm 60, both of my parents (who would be well past 90 if still living) are gone.

I have never in my life time seen anything like the joy that greeted Obama's election. The closest thing I can think of is the fall of the Berlin wall, but that wasn't a world-wide celebration.

6. Obama is having press conferences. DimSon isn't. Hard for the press to cover something that isn't
happening. I don't think Obama is "trying to take charge" so much as being sucked into the vacuum resulting from our complete absence of anything else resembling leadership.

Scrapping EPA rules as fast as possible in waning days is DimSon's idea of "leadership," apparently.

8. i'm 53 and have to admit
i never paid this much attention before. i don't remember past transitions. i just know with this one it can NOT come soon enough. it's eight years late. i'm still pissed. i still want justice. i'm so happy that obama is coming in but i still want congress to impeach bush first so justice has a chance. there's just still a hella lot i want and will never get probably, and justice is chief among them. but i can't give you a comparison because i don't know! i think perhaps this is true of many people. it was just never so important. we just never had a president so fucking bad in so many ways until gw. before 2000 i had something like faith in my government. so now that's gone and i am paying attention. something i realize i should have been doing all along, but i hope and plan to stay engaged from here on out. the reason i think that i may be one of many is that gw happened. we all need to be paying closer attention from here on out or the damage will surely be permanent.

10. I think that the MSM is trying to hype it up so that the Repug spin
of "the Obama Depression" would get more validity ...
