I was rewatching WEst Wing for the Millionth time, and came across this scene in the 3rd episodes of the second season, one of my all time favorites. I was inspired to post this after seeing Prop 8: the Musical on Countdown. Here is the religious smackdown, Bartlet style. Remember this scene when you get into a fight with homophobic ass holes.

a) it's customary to stand out of respect (and formality) for certain figures. You always have to stand when a judge or justice enters the courtroom.

b) this scene was about much more than just standing for the president.

I respect the Office of the Presidency, even though I heartily despise George W Bush and wish he had been impeached and imprisoned for befouling it.

Definitely a "dr." Laura smackdown of the finest order. If President Obama actually did that to "dr." Laura or one of her ilk, I would wet myself whilst providing counterpoint in odd yet satisfying little chirping and gleeking noises...

Dr. Laura had to no-doubt been told of this by people in her sphere of influence, and she knew it was aimed at her. Laughing as she still got the slap even if it was done in character form.

I mentioned to the wife that I think we are starting season 8 of the West Wing in January.

13. Last xmas I got the entire series on DVD.

We're up to mid-season 3. We put it in when we find time to watch TV and there nothing else on (most of the time). It's a great show. And the dvds don't have commercials!
