1. I wish he would be Secretary of Defense
Take a page from the Republican strategy book and put someone in charge whose sole goal in life is to shut the place down.

50. If O wants real honest change, K should be appointed AG. That would shake up the
unholy kabuki dance going on in DC. That would signify real change, not just the grandstanding and the hollow pretense of change.

18. Where are we "defending" ourselves...we've done nothing but attack people...
beginning with native American genocide and 350 years of slavery --

we've done nothing but attack, destroy, bomb, inventing new more violent

weapons and torturing.

Btw ...who is it you're imaging we're defending ourselves from-?

We're a superpower still on the warpath.

And we've attacked and destroyed most of nature - polluting and sickening our planet.

The Civil War? Sure, it doesn't happen often, but we need to be able to defend ourselves. Do you suggest we eliminate our military entirely? Russia and China would just LOVE that.

26. Japan and Germany are attacking us--???
We are a SUPERPOWER -- more weapons than everyone else combined

AND planning to militarize the skies --!!

The Civil War happened because the Founders made a "compromise -- i.e.,

deal -- with capitalistic slaveholders.

How paranoid are you -- ?

A nation cannot be strong anywhere else if its crumbling apart at home --

which thanks again to deregulating capitalism is happening here --

Wake up --!!

27. Wake up to what?
I'm sorry, I'm aware of the excesses of our capitalist system, and our bloated defense budget. We could definitely benefit from reduced defense spending, and better directing the resources we do spend on defense. Yet it's still a necessary part of our budget. It just needs a significant overhaul.
We still need to be able to defend ourselves. That's not paranoia, that's reality. Putin is not a nice man. The guys in charge of China are not nice people. And they have a substantial military. Not that I think there'll be a war with them in the near future, but if the shit hits the fan, we don't want to be armed with sweets and flowers.

31. You go ahead and trust an ex-KGB man. Ask the Russian mafia how they feel about Putin.
He'll get glowing reviews.
Please, I know Bush is a train wreck of a president who has done a whole hell of a lot to make the world less safe, but that doesn't take away from the fact that there are dangerous people out there. I certainly don't think our country should be bombing the living shit out of everybody, but nor do I think we shouldn't be able to defend ourselves if our country is seriously in danger. That's not being paranoid, that's being realistic.

who is smart enough to know his country will be much better off in a peaceful environment, without nukes on his borders and not having to Fight another cold war. To bad our "decider" is not of the same shrewdness and intelligence. Russia is no longer a poor nation while we are heavily in debt so they can match us tit for tat. If we are so stupid as to put nukes on his border he will put them on ours. Do the math

44. Please define "defend ourselves". What our DOD is today
compared to my idea of self defense is like the difference between a cap pistol and an ICBM.

What you always need to ask yourself is, what are their motivations, why do they do what they do? Do you think our DOD is about defending us or are they all about generating corporate profits? Was Rummy's lighter military about saving money or shifting the money from troops to hardware? The huge private armies we have purchased is the privatization of our troops. Jesus, just scratch the surface slightly and anyone can see defense is not what it's all about.....one word.............profit. And for their profits we destroy the earth.

Of course I do. The DoD is bloated and needs serious work. Our defense spending needs to be streamlined, cost-effective, and focused on what really matters. We need to be able to maintain a respectable military, but at a reasonable cost.

3. Kucinich becoming one of the last real Democrats of the People
Kucinich along with Bernie Sanders are two of the few legislators left that speak for average Americans. The corporate media continues to marginalize these gentlemen as kooks. My local news did a story on Kucinich a while back ending the story by saying Kucinich also sees UFOs, trying to destroy all his credibility. I am fast beginning to think Obama will become just another corporate Democrat with his attention to bailouts with our money. Congressmen like Kucinich may be one of the few voices of reality left speaking.

47. You got that right. Obama wouldn't be where he was without offering less than
what either Sanders or Kucinich would offer. You've gotta sleep with the powers that be (figuratively speaking) if you want the job. Sanders and Kucinich won't get on the casting couch. Given that sorry fact of life, Obama is our best bet for crumbs. We can only hope for crumbs, after all. We'll never get a piece of the pie.

55. Which it is why it is NOW essential ...
for all of us concerned with small "d" democracy vs the Democratic Party

to support the strengthening of third parties and for IRV voting --

Let me add that, sadly, the Democrats have long been working on co-opting the Greens --

for one -- but I think third parties and Dems moving in a block will be our only

way out of the corporate control over our elections, candidates, debates, etal --

AND I was recently shocked as Randi Rhodes said this would be the thing that has to be done --

she had been very anti-Nader having bought the scapegoating propaganda.

We have no leverage over Dems as has been very clear from last two years with Pelosi & Reid ...

and now add to it their calls for "governing from center" and the line up of questionable

advisers.

4. Bankers are the scum of the earth.....military finances...
I worked for a bank when I was younger and going through school. I saw it then. I was recently released from serving in Vietnam in the Army, and it reminded me so much of the military, it was scary.

They treat their employees as "class segregated shills". The officers are treated with respect and climb the ladders, eat the shit, and stomp on the peons below. The peons simply do their bidding.

It is a repuglican/fascist strong hold, and it will not go down without taking our society with it. These thugs are ruthless and have no respect for what is right and just for the country. It's all about the almighty dollar...nothing more.

We need to roll these bastards in.

13. do you understand what you are saying?
You are saying that only the powerful have anything to say with listening to. That is encouraging people to accept tyranny.

We don't discount what a person says because of what they supposedly "are." This is the logic of the fascist - that strength is everything, that those who are in power are therefore morally superior, that the "triumph of the will" is what matters, and that people without power are irrelevant, or perhaps in the way.

You are spreading a poisonous doctrine here.

and bombs. We only have enough to blow up the whole plant 20times over. It's not enough! We need to start more wars for our economy. We need to stop acting like the majority of people are good-natured. We need to strengthen our xtian ideals and ignore money problems altogether.

We need sensible intelligent reasonable critics like Kucinich and Nader to just STFU and have some faith in the system and the popular vote goddamnit!
