18. Maybe he's loving his fan mail for making Michelle Bachmann show her true colors.
I just love that one email floating around that asks:

If McCain was the Magna Cum Laude from Harvard and Obama the 5th from the bottom of his class, how would people think of Obama?

If Obama has divorced his crippled wife and married a rich woman who he had been having an affair with behind his 1st wife's back, how would people think of Obama?

etc...

It is so funny. Obama HAS the family values the right wing preaches about, but they won't vote for him because McCain is "the one" they have been told to vote for. It's REALLY sad.

25. Tweety grew a pair
Don't know when, but its good to see him work like a journalist. However, he has a lot of history as "Tweety" and its going to take awhile before many here at DU forget those days.

5. He certainly did nail it.
When he started to say "the average guy in this country thinks..." I cringed because I thought he was going to say something that was way off the mark and out of touch. I think he nailed it head on, though.

4. How interesting.
Being in Australia, of course I haven't seen the 30-minute ad yet. But I really like the things that Chris Matthews is saying.

His comments about "we want black people to grow up" were jarring and a bit off, but I got what he was trying to say.

6. That's utter bullshit! People of the world please listen up...
We black Americans ARE real Americans! We love our country. We love our families. We love our children...just like EVERYONE else! I'm so sick and tired of this racist bullshit which implies that we are some form of aliens, non-human miscreants. WE ARE NOT!! For god sakes, we ARE human! We are just like you except for skin color. Most of us are law-abiding citizens who want the best for our families and our children. Most of us work our butts off to make sure our families are well taken care of. I am so sick and tired of Tweety and White America painting black Americans as somehow different. Once and for all, it's NOT true! People of the world need to know this!

9. I agree with you 100% but
Matthews was talking to his portion of the American viewers which are possibly predominantly white. He was angry and telling the public for Christ's sake "what more do you want from someone". He was in very high praise of Obama. I am sooo proud of Chris. He was pointing out how ludicrous it is how people think.

10. I thought that his comments were off too
"referring to Barack's "community" as if we are all not in the same community. "What do you want from Black people?" and then repeating the opposite of offensive stereotypes. I often feel that "Tweety" is off the mark and this is no exception. He reveals much of his subconcious with his free association and it did not ring true for me at all.

23. Your statement also stereotypes.....
and I cringe in pain, every time some one uses it.
I was raised in a "Trailer Court" and can remember being looked down on by my peers at school for where I lived.
My father and mother worked hard every day to insure my siblings and I were fed, clothed and educated.
Even tho we didn't have many luxuries I never felt poor.
It was a common event for my dad to bring someone into our "home" for sunday dinner. It was usually a fellow worker who had less than we did, my mother would just set another place at the table.
I remember waking up one morning to find a family of four sleeping in our tiny living room. My dad was on his way home from work one night and stopped to help them change a flat. When he found out they had no place to sleep because they could not afford a motel, he brought them home with him.

I'm just saying maybe it's time for all of us to put aside stereotypes and get to know each other.
What we call "home" may be different, but like my father the majority of us share a common love and compassion for our fellow man.

27. The problem is that Tweety has been doing this throughout the primaries...
Suggesting that "regular folks" are white and questioning why it is that Obama cannot connect with "regular people." Aren't black folks "regular folks," too? Are we humans? Do we not love our families? Do we not send our daughters and sons off to the military? In fact, many black and Latino families are typically eager to serve their country in the military so that we can take advantage of the GI Bill. My father and grandfather were able to go to college through the GI Bill. My brother and counsins are currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, etc. While I understand what Tweety was getting at, but I think he's guilty of the exact same behavior as the racists.

26. it is bullshit, but....
Tweety doesn't think that about black Americans....He was talking to the racist idiots that believe that bullshit. He was saying to those people that put black Americans in a different category, the people who say things like "They need to raise their families better" or those other things that he mentioned...Tweety was saying to those people "What the fuck else do you want you racist assholes?"

I get what you're saying, but HE wasn't saying those things. He was talking to the idiots who do.

21. Chris Matthews says, I think he connected a LITTLE bit tonight.....
I'm just thinking that Matthews is either a closet racist who is just beginning to see the light or he is now trying to repair the damage that he and others in the media did to Obama by their obsessive discussion of race for the last year, and now he is trying to undo it.

Why else would Obama's race be the first thing that he discusses after this infomercial? I mean, Chris talked about hard working Whites all the way through the primaries, and is still talking about them.

I'm not sure if I'm so grateful to Chris for this....because if it wasn't for him and those other media clowns, way more folks would have seen past Obama's race by now. Guess this will be Chris' cross to bear.

I had tremendous fun watching the Ad and this discussion on it. Whatever his history, Matthews did the right thing, and is a bit like Powell - he will bring cross-party vote and we should not push these voters away by tainting their messenger...
