Whites heckle the mostly African Americans in line to vote early in NC. Disgusting. This, and worse, will be remembered as McCain's legacy at the end of his career.

2. I can't watch the video at work. What town?
It's against the law to interfere with people's right to vote, and it's against the law to campaign too close to a polling place. If laws are being broken, the police need to be called. I'll be glad to call them if this is happening in my town.

4. Possible violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965: Voter intimidation.
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 states in Section 11(b) that "No person … shall intimidate, threaten, or coerce … any person for voting or attempting to vote."

This needs to be investigated immediately for possible violations of federal law. Period.

15. I thought the same thing....
Why are they allowed to do this? The poll workers should report this to the local authorities.
This is not a protest it is intimidation.

5. I've lived in NC all my life
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 09:50 AM by AlbertCat
Early voting has been around for years....for several elections. No one harassed anybody when Repugs were winning. Now that they're losing and have nothing to run on but racial tactics, Repugs show their infantile strategies and prejudices in public.

But race, religion and even party affiliation have nothing to do with it this time. It's about integrity, intelligence and competence. I mean c'mon! Lipstick Libby is ranked 93rd out of 100. And the Bush/Cheney legacy! YIKES! Sarah Palin??? Give me a break!

This election is a no-brainer! The easiest one I've ever participated in, that's for sure.

8. This.
This is my answer to my friends that live in the south when they complain about stereotyping the southern mentality. This has the feel of something right out of the 1950's.

10. As someone that was born in that state
lived there until I could flee, then returned in the late 90's for four looooooooooongass years, you are right on about the 1950's feeling that emanates there. I've used the same adjectives, as well.

Moving there from San Francisco, I was stunned at the mindset of most of the people I met. I felt like I was on a bad trip (w/o the acid). And I lived in the largest city in the state.

Although it would please me immensely if NC went blue this year, I still wouldn't move back. I love the Left Coast too much.

12. There are two North Carolinas-
- the one found in its cities and the one in its small towns and countryside. Really though, the cities down here are as progressive as anywhere in the country, which is why it's so competitive this year. The black population is being joined by urban whites- many of whom have moved here from other parts of the US and even from other countries.

9. This has got to be illegal on both voting rights and simple assault . . .
(it's not like this is a rally with competing adherents; one group is exercising its rights and the other is trying to intimidate them).

Where are the cops?

19. You cannot campaign/protest within 50' of a polling place.
Beyond that..I guess its up to the cops to decide about their assembly.

11. now I know I'm going to be a poll monitor
These fuckers are unreal!!

I'd been thinking about volunteering as a poll monitor in one of the rural counties where there might be efforts to supress the black vote. If this is what can be done in the light of day in a busy city, what more could occur elsewhere?!

Ignorant hateful people like these protesters MUST be SMACKED DOWN!!!!

13. They are protesting voters?
So they are against voting? Or maybe against free and fair elections. Do they have any idea what they look like to the rest of the world and the rest of the country? Someone needs to take their pictures and post them on the web. What a bunch of sore losers and cry babies. Lots of acting out when they don't get their way. Stay strong. We are close to the end. We've got to help each other through this. Really wish people would realize how much happier they would be if they just crossed over to the other side. They have lost more than an election.

14. This has to be a joke

When people go to vote they should be allowed to without this kind of bullshit.

Fortunately, for me this type of crap has never happened.

16. This upset me so much that I wrote this simply request to McCain and attached the vid.....
Dear Senator McCain,
Is this what we can expect from your supporters when we go to the polls?
I would feel very threatened if this took place outside of my polling place.
I would hope that you would publicy denounce such actions.
There is no place in a democracy for voter intimidation.
